So far we've had some good success when it comes to overclocking which we looked at in our HIS HD 7970 and XFX HD 7970 Black Edition Double Dissipation review. Adding a second card into the mix is known for limiting overclocking ability as cards are placed together and more heat is generated. Those numbers are then amplified due to the added voltage being thrown through the core of each GPU.
Since we've already looked at the Sapphire HD 7970 in our original CrossFire review, we won't need to have a look at the card again. Instead we'll get straight into the testbed setup and quickly cover how we went with the overclock. Once we've done that we'll just get straight into the performance.

Today we have the Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6670. This is, among other things a low-profile graphics card capable of being installed in an HTPC with half-height PCI brackets. Coming in at just under $90, this card is "inexpensive" in terms of the graphics world. I personally would expect to be able to play dated, and non-graphic intensive games with ease, let's see if the HD 6670 can deliver - but first, lets get Sapphire's take.

Today AMD release their new HD7950 graphics card, tackling the GTX580 ‘head on’ at the same price point. When we were finally in a position to review HD7970 partner hardware, XFX stole the show thanks to a dramatically effective, highly modified ‘Double Dissipation’ version of the card with dual fan cooler. Today we are looking at their HD7950 which on paper promises the same heady combination of performance and cooling efficiency.

Regardless of the reason for its "late" arrival the 7950 launches today and one of our launch day cards is Sapphires 7950 Overclock. With a custom PCB and cooler this factory overclocked card has two different BIOS profiles and is without doubt one of the more interesting models available. We will be putting it up against overclocked versions of the GTX 580 3GB, 7970 and 6970 to find out how each performs on Intel i7/X79 @ 5.0GHz.

Juste avant les fêtes de fin d'année, AMD dévoilait son nouveau GPU phare, Tahiti et la première carte l'arborant à savoir la RADEON HD 7970. Il s'agissait toutefois d'un paper launch puisqu'aucune carte ne pointa le bout de son nez en boutique avant 2012 et un tarif souvent plus élevé que les 499 € de son prix public annoncé. Un mois plus tard, la situation n'a guère changé puisqu'il est toujours presque impossible de dénicher une HD 7970 en dessous de 520 €, la faute à un approvisionnement tendu. AMD lance aujourd'hui la seconde vague de cartes employant Tahiti, à savoir la RADEON HD 7950. Conservant le bus 384 bits et les 3 Go de GDDR5 de sa grande soeur, le GPU se retrouve par contre amputé d'un peu plus de 12% de ses unités de calcul/texturing et sa fréquence chute de plus de 13%. De quoi maximiser les rendements et assurer un volume suffisant d'approv isionnement sans dégrader significativement les performances ?
