When it comes to creating a high end graphics card, very few companies can match Asus. Today we are looking at their new Matrix HD7970 Platinum graphics card, which features a hefty metal, dual fan cooler and out of the box overclocked settings. This card uses a 20 phase VRM which takes power from two 8 pin PCIe power connectors. The VRM features a sophisticated load line calibration system with manual LLC factor control which helps counter V-Droop. Is this the ultimate HD7970? It's been so long since I've looked at an ASUS video card, so long that I honestly couldn't remember the last time I saw one. I can tell you, though, it was in the day where the TOP series reigned supreme. So what's happening these days with ASUS in the video card market? Auch wenn der Release der Radeon HD 5000-Serie bereits einige Wochen zurückliegt und andere Webseiten bereits unzählige Tests veröffentlicht haben, lassen wir es uns trotzdem nicht nehmen die größte aller vier Karten durch unseren eigenen Benchmarkparcour zu schicken.

Today on our test bench we have the result of ASUS' work on enhancing the 6870 design. The Radeon EAH6870 DirectCU is a factory overclocked model which claims to run cooler than the reference model and certainly looks different. We will be running it through a selection of real world tests to find out how it performs in gaming, multimedia and GPU computing tasks. Graphics cards are a funny thing, because we end up with AMD and Nvidia constantly competing and releasing new models of GPU's left right and centre and then suddenly we see nothing. The only products that end up being released are revamped versions of older cards, but that's not to say they aren't any good, as that couldn't be further from the truth.
