Today we published a rather special article. We took 64 graphics cards from the last five years, and tested each one with our current graphics benchmarks. It is quite interesting to see how each successive generation of AMD (ATI back then) and Nvidia video cards pushed performance to another level. We started with the ATI Radeon HD 3000 series and the Nvidia GeForce 8000 series, which were the first DirectX 10-compatible video cards. We picked the high-end cards from each generation, and also the mid-range ones. Surprisingly, a lot of these hold up quite well, even in today’s demanding video games. If your PC is still running on an old graphics card, now you can see exactly how much (or how little) you will gain if you buy a newer one.
Discrete computer graphics are one of the toughest markets to keep current with. New graphics cores are released on a pretty frequent basis from both ATI and NVIDIA and with naming schemes that change nearly as often, it can be difficult to determine where each card stands in relation to others in the same price range. Today we will be taking a look at the MSI R6850 PE / OC graphics card, a mid-range GPU that was launched at the end of last year. Codenamed Barts, this GPU is built on a 40nm process with support for DirectX 11 & Open GL 4.0. Other notable features include HDMI 1.4a & DisplayPort 1.2 support as well as AMD Eyefinity multi-display technology and CrossfireX support.

Le but est noble, fournir des cartes performantes à ceux qui aiment avoir une configuration transportable ou qui n’ont pas le droit d’occuper une pièce entière dans leur logement afin de s’adonner à leur passion du Hardware. De plus, lorsqu’on regarde les nombreux boitiers ITX et micro-ATX clairement orientés vers le gaming, on ne peut que constater que les cartes graphiques à gabarit raisonnable ont forcément un avenir. ASUS retente donc l’expérience, avec la GTX 760, après avoir ouvert le bal avec la GTX 670. Les deux cartes étant proches en termes de spécifications, on peut aisément penser que le développement du nouveau modèle en fût plus que simplifié. Le modèle est proposé à 240 €, soit un surcoût de 50 € par rapport à la moins chère des GTX 760. Pour un PCB réduit, une alimentation revue et un refroidissement spécifique, on peut considérer que le surcoût est des plus justifiés.
Today AMD released their second generation DirectX 11 video card with the Radeon HD 6800 series.
