We check out the Twin Frozr based HD 7870 from MSI and see how it overclocks and performs today.

MSI expand the Power Edition series with the release of the Radeon HD 7850. We overclock it a lot and see what the model is capable of doing.

Having seen that AMD's new Bonaire core has taken to the market a lot better than anticipated with its high level of performance, relative to its price, its very much worth looking at what other options that there are to chose from over the Sapphire and Club3D cards that I've already looked at. Next to the line with their over clocked edition card is MSI. Whilst I've typically looked at cards from the upper end of the graphics spectrum from MSI, including their GTX670 Power Edition and GTX680 Lightning, its been a long while since I've look at a card that sits lower down in their range, let alone an AMD offering at that.

We check out another retail AMD Radeon HD 7790 1GB video card. This time it's from the folks at MSI and we overclock it.

MSI's first Radeon 7000 series Power Edition video card arrives in the form of the HD 7770, a model that's been hit and miss.

When we moved away from the single GPU performance via the XFX HD 7770 Black Edition S Super Overclocked 1GB and checked out the CrossFire performance via Sapphire we saw a bit of light at the end of the tunnel thanks to some awesome CrossFire scaling. The issue continued to be the price of the setup, though.
With some strong overclocks out of the box, we wonder what kind of overclocking potential we have with the model. Today we'll be finding that out exactly via the help of the MSI Radeon HD 7770 1GB OC Edition video card. There are of course a few things we need to do before we cover the overclocking side of things.

I always seem to start these reviews by stating that the series of the card we're looking at is one of my favorite. It's not just some generic introduction and I really am a large fan of series' like the IceQ from HIS, Vapor-X from Sapphire, SOC from GIGABYTE and most of all, the MSI series including the Cyclone, HAWK and Lightning which we're looking at today.

"The Power Edition series is one that we don't hear a lot about from MSI, but it's a really good series for those hoping to get a bit more than the norm when it comes to overclocking. It's kind of a less hardcore version of the Lightning Series, but designed for higher end cards than we would normally see in the HAWK series.

It feels like it's been ages since I've tested a video card. Unfortunately I was then quick to realize that it's only been a little over a week, and became concerned that 10 days felt like an eternity. To get back into the swing of things, though, we fired up the HD 6950 from MSI which has just gotten the Twin Frozr II treatment.

Let’s see the performance of the new Radeon HD 6870 from MSI, which follows the AMD reference design and competes with the GeForce GTX 465.
