Only recently we looked at the HD 5870 Turbo from HIS which did a good job of impressing us. Today we're moving slightly down the ladder to the HD 5850 which has become one of the best valued video cards on the market today.

Video cards have actually been really quiet lately. The fact that both AMD and NVIDIA have had the current crop of models out for a while means that most companies have exhausted ways to make them stand out from the pack. Still, with that being said, it's not dead completely. So today we're looking at a HD 6770 from the peeps over at HIS. The HD 6770 is a great mid-range model, but we haven't seen companies do heaps with it. It's also one of the more recent VGA releases, so that could have a bit to do with it as well."

Just before the launch of the HD 6790, HIS emailed us and asked if we wanted to get a sample of the normal version, or if we were happy to wait a couple of extra weeks for the IceQ X Turbo one.

We knew it was only a matter of time, and while we would've liked to have seen the HD 6900 series get the treatment first, we know just because of the way the models were released it wasn't going to happen. What are we talking about? The HD 6000 series getting the IceQ treatment from HIS, which is one of my favorite series as they combine a new cooler and an overclock to some of our favorite models.

Multi card setups continue not to be the biggest area in video cards. It probably never will be; you’ve got the people that don’t understand how it works and simply people who have no interest in running multi card setups. In saying that, though, there’s still a large group of us that love multi card setups and to be honest, NVIDIA has really spiced the category up lately thanks to the release of the GTX 460.

We've welcomed the new HD 6800 series with open arms and while the HD 6870 might be the faster of the two cards, the HD 6850 represents some great value for money. When we add a second one into the mix we do see that the overall value does dip slightly, but the performance gains are really strong.

So we started with the boring stuff and checked out the HD 6850 and HD 6870 on their lonesome against a bunch of other cards. We began to have a bit of fun when we started pairing the cards together. There’s no denying, though, that for most people Crossfire isn’t an option, be it too expensive or just not really feasible.

If you want to play the top DX11 game these days a high-end card is a must. The HIS Radeon HD 6850 Turbo with IceQ X cooling is a really nice card at a really reasonable price. This card should keep up with the other cards in its class in the performance benchmarks, but stay way cooler than most of them since it uses an aftermarket GPU cooler. We put it to the test against several other AMD Radeon HD 6850 video cards to see which comes out on top!
