ECS is releasing a new motherboard series, "Golden Board," where all metallic parts are golden, including the capacitors and coils. Two models were announced within this series, the Z77H2-AX and the Z77H2-A2X. Let's take a look at the Z77H2-AX, which comes with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a PLX switch chip allowing a very high-end configuration for its PCI Express x16 slots, and much more.

The Z77H2-AX Motherboard from ECS has gold accents all over the place, comes with a clean design and the offered hardware bundle should be enough for most users; regarding the software which ships with it, most is in trial version mode and we would have preferred to see more which could have added value to the product like THX TruStudio Pro. The UEFI interface can be used with ease, except the RAM section, which is more difficult to use compared to the one found on ASRock motherboards.

The ECS Z77H2-AX Black Extreme 'Golden Board' is without a doubt a very unique looking motherboard. It doesn't have the weapon type theme that we have seen on several other unique boards in recent history, but the gold on black color scheme did grow on me. I wasn't wild about it at first, but as I used the Z77H2-AX over the past few weeks and had it sitting on my test bench, I really began to like the look of it. Though unfortunately looks won't carry a board, it also has to have the performance. The ECS Z77H2-AX Black Extreme retails for $309.99, with a price tag at that level, it darn well better have performance to spare...

ECS has a long standing of being an excellent OEM but when it comes to enthusiasts it’s not really a name we here brought up very often due to its die hard allegiance to the basic OEM style products the community has grown so used to. This is not necessarily a bad thing or is it?

Today PCSTATS has a real treat for you - the ECS Z77H2-A2X Black Edition Golden motherboard! Every metallic surface on this board is gold plated so it's got quite the 'bling' factor going for it. The reason for all the gold is that 2012 is the year of the Dragon in the Chinese zodiac calender, making this a very auspicious time. ECS's Z77H2-A2X motherboard is built around the Intel Z77 chipset and primed for Intel's 22nm 3rd Gen. Intel Core i3/i5/i7 'Ivy Bridge' processors.

When it comes to motherboards, ECS probably isn't one of the first names that pop into your head. Instead it will be companies like ASUS, ASRock, GIGABYTE and MSI. Earlier in the year, though, we checked out the A75 based ECS A75F-A and it did a good job of impressing us and being a pretty nice all round board.
Today, though, we take the time to check out something a lot higher end in the form of the Intel X79 based X79R-AX. We saw ECS do a pretty good job with the lower end A75 board; it will be interesting to see how they handle the new high end chipset from Intel along with our high end i7 3960X CPU.
