AMD is getting ready to come out with Phenom II X6 six-core processor and they have gone ahead and done a platform refresh of sorts that enhances support for future product and also brings new mainstream features to the market. The result of this is the introduction of ATI Radeon HD 4290 Graphics with the AMD 890GX chipset and a brand new southbridge called the SB850.
In this review we will be looking at the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 which is a mid-level motherboard supporting the latest AM3+ processors. As the name indicates the board is based on the new AMD 990FX chipset. The new chipset is designed to support the new AMD FX "bulldozer" processors along with NVidia SLI.

So far, Gigabyte has released four motherboards based on the new AMD 990FX chipset, and today we are taking a look at one of the models targeted to the entry high-end market, the 990FXA-UD5, which comes with five PCI Express x16 slots.
Today we will be testing out the Gigabyte 990FXA-UD5. Based on the latest AM3+ architecture and featuring the top-end 990FX chipset and SB950 southbridge combo, this board offers a mid-grade enthusiast platform with an emphasis on robust build quality and rich feature sets. The Gigabyte 990FXA series is also available in UD3 and UD7 models, the main difference among the three being the number of supported graphics cards.
Over the coming months as we build up towards finally getting our hands on the Bulldozer platform, we'll no doubt be looking at plenty of 990FX based motherboards from companies. We have already reviewed several 990FX motherboards, but today we are looking at one of the latest boards from Gigabyte, the Bulldozer supporting 990 FXA-UD7. The UD7 series has a great reputation among enthusiast users, so we have high expectations today that this will continue the success story for Gigabyte.
