Over the coming months as we build up towards finally getting our hands on the Bulldozer platform, we'll no doubt be looking at plenty of 990FX based motherboards from companies. Having already looked at what ASUS offered us in their ROG Crosshair V Formula board, today we'll take the time to check out the GIGABYTE option.

The P67 chipset continues to be very present on the market; it shows by the fact that we looked at the Maximus IV Extreme from ASUS just the other week, and if you head on over to Newegg, there's a load of P67 based motherboards not only listed, but also in stock. Today we're looking at another P67 based board and this one comes from ASRock. The particular board we're looking at today falls into the new Fatal1ty series from ASRock which has so far seen the Fatal1ty P67 Professional. Today we're looking at the Fatal1ty P67 Performance, a board that comes in cheaper than the original Professional version.

Today, we're going to review an ASRock H55M Pro motherboard. Consider it a counterpart of the microATX P55M Pro, just based on the H55 chipset. H55M Pro is not the lowest-end solution in its series, but it's still quite affordable. Let's see whether ASRock was successful in balancing out price and features.

The Biostar Hi-Fi B85N 3D motherboard comes in the mini-ITX form factor at only 17 x 17 cm, targeting the budget audience. The small form factor of the Biostar Hi-Fi B85N 3D is ideally suited for low power solutions, such as an HTPC or kiosk system. The Hi-Fi board contains the Intel B85 Chipset, which supports Socket LGA1150 i3, i5, and i7 processors, Intel Rapid Start, Intel Smart Connect, and Intel SBA 2.0. There is support for two DDR3 DIMM modules at 1333 or 1600 MHz, with a maximum memory capacity of 16GB. A combination mSATA/Mini PCI-E slot is on the board for the addition of a SSD or Mini PCI-E card.

On our test bench today we have one of the latest products from ASUS, the P7H55-M/USB3. Based on Intel's Socket 1156 and the H55 chipset this Micro-ATX board includes the latest features such as SATA 6GB/s and USB 3.0. We will be putting it through a selection of real world tests to find out how well it performs against a comparable H57 model when using the Core i5-655K.

ASRock P67 Pro3 is a rather inexpensive LGA 1155 motherboard that mostly offers basic features of this platform, but has decent expandability. It won't do for a SLI/CrossFire configuration and may require additional expansion cards, if onboard connectors are not enough. If they are, you get a decent motherboard with matching software utilities that will let you build a good modern PC.
