With a motherboard being one of the main component decisions that a user must choose, we see things being shaken up slightly in terms of how the market looks. We've always seen the likes of Asus and Gigabyte leading the market, but ASRock have had a big push into the high-end segment and have been realeasing some really high-performance, high-quality boards as of late and with the launch of X79, they wanted to continue into this area and show us exactly what they could do with this new technology.

If you're going down the path of building an absolute beast of a system between now and Christmas, the chances are you're going to be looking at the X79 chipset and the new LGA 2011 CPUs from Intel. At launch we've seen so many motherboards from companies that offer so many different features and hit us at so many different price points.

As part of the Sandy Bridge Extreme CPU launch, Benchmark Reviews received several new X79 Express motherboards to test. Each motherboard's aimed at a different audience and has different features. In this article I'll compare the stock and overclocked performance of each motherboard to see if there are any significant differences.

While the KitGuru lab has burned the midnight oil to bring you the most comprehensive and detailed analysis of Intel’s brand new technology, the chip manufacturer has its own view on the new platform and what it means. Once you’re done reading the 40-page, in-depth testing and analysis articles, whip up a cappuccino, turn on your speakers and look at the nice moving pictures. KitGuru relaxes as X79 is put under the PCTV Videoscope.

TUF series boards in general all have three key elements: I/O connectivity, component quality and reliability / cooling technology. ASUS uses military-grade components on TUF boards and as such, this product line features a five year warranty and goes through a different internal validation test compared to standard boards. But it's the cooling aspect, a cover over the entire board known as Thermal Armor, that I'm most excited about.

The MSI X79A-GD65 isn't all that new to us, as earlier in the month we did a full preview on it. Today, though, we get to dive a little deeper into the board and cover some of the stuff we couldn't at the time, including the BIOS and the latest rendition of ClickBIOS II.

When Z68 launched we saw GIGABYTE bring the G1 series back in the form of the GIGABYTE G1.Sniper 2; it offered everything you'd want from a board that was focused on the gaming market. I liked the board so much that it made its way into my own system paired with a 2600k and HD 6990. The Killer E2100 NIC while I feel is probably just as good as an Intel one is a really nice addition, but the onboard X-Fi audio is a real stand out for me, along with the Matte Black PCB.
