Just absolutely powering through the motherboards we have on offer today, we're going to look at the first of the three ASRock boards that we have currently sitting around us. Outside of the Extreme4 that we'll be looking at today, we also have the awesome looking Micro-ATX X79 Extreme4-M and the new ultra high end board from the company - the X79 Extreme9.

I had never really used ASRock boards in the past, on a personal level, and only being in charge of motherboard reviews saw me having a glance at their potential. After looking at their Z68 boards, I instantly knew they had something special going on. X79 confirmed this, when we looked at the X79 Extreme4 which was one of the best looking boards that had passed through my hands. It also showed great performance and utilised the new X79 structure in terms of benchmarking, overclocking and a nice, easy to use UEFI BIOS.

Yesterday Sapphire launched their latest motherboard, the Pure Black 990FX which is based on the latest high end AMD chipset and Socket AM3+. Today we have one on our test bench and will be pairing it with an FX 8-core CPU and 16GB of memory to find out how it compares to one of the better competitors out there. In addition to that we will also take a look at Sapphires new 6450 Flex Edition which should be ideal for those looking to maximise their productivity.

Intel has released two motherboard models for the new socket 2011 platform, the DX79SI and the DX79TO, targeted to the most high-end processor Intel offers for desktops today, the Core i7 "Sandy Bridge-E" models. Let's take a look at the DX79SI, which comes with three PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots.

EVGA may have been a little late to the game with their Intel Socket 1155 motherboards. By no means does that mean they aren't making a splash with them. The EVGA Z68 FTW is a damn fine looking motherboard. Looks won't get you the frame rates we all desire though! Does it live up to the expectations that accompany the EVGA name? Or is it all show and no go? Join us as we take a look at the performance of the EVGA Z68 FTW and compare it to a handful of systems!

After X79 proving to be a pricey upgrade this Christmas, a lot of users are still looking at what the famous Z68 platform has to offer, and with prices falling as we get closer to that special day of the holiday season, it's the perfect time to upgrade it seems. Couple this fantastic value with a range of components that can really be pushed to their limits including the 2500k, 2600k and the newest 2700k processors and you have a system that will last the test of time, or at least until Intel bring out Ivy Bridge.

Out of the ASUS boards we've looked at which include the ASUS Rampage IV Extreme, the ASUS Sabertooth X79 along with the P9X79 Deluxe we linked to just above as well, the P9X79 Pro is actually the cheapest option out of the four boards we've checked out. What does the drop in price mean, though?
