So far, Gigabyte has released four motherboards based on the new AMD 990FX chipset, and today we are taking a look at one of the models targeted to the entry high-end market, the 990FXA-UD5, which comes with five PCI Express x16 slots.

Towards the end of this month we'll see AMD launch its new Llano desktop platform which is part of the Fusion family that AMD are really concentrating on these days. Earlier this year we saw AMD launch the Brazos platform in the form of the E series APU. Back at CES (during the G1-Killer launch) we were shown something pretty special; besides the G1 we mean. While Tim Handley was telling us about the virtues of the G1-Killer line-up, he flashed us a picture of a new board that was still under development. This was an early image of the X58A-OC. At the end of last month during Computex we saw the AMD 990FX chipset launch which brought with it some strong features. One of the more appealing ones was that it supports the new Bulldozer CPUs that are due out later this year. Because AMD aren't changing the socket, though, for the first generation of Bulldozer we can have boards now that support it while also supporting the current crop of CPUs from AMD.

Both have similar specifications and feature four PCI Express x16 slots, but the Crosshair V Formula comes with a better audio codec, two additional USB 3.0 ports, better networking chip, and more overclocking options.
