Motherboards

We had a look at a Z77 Mini-ITX from ASRock the other day and today we check out what ASUS is offering.

Recently I've had the opportunity to test several small form factor cases aimed at the enthusiast market, and it's been fascinating to see the progress vendors have made in creating cases that allow users to squeeze high performance systems into increasingly smaller spaces. However, the best designed SFF enthusiast case isn't much good without a high performance motherboard, and historically there hasn't been much for the enthusiast in the mini ITX form factor. Until now, at least: ASUS has released their P8Z77-I Deluxe/WD motherboard. Let's see what performance and features they've managed to hammer into this tiny thing.

Out of all the different types of hardware that I look at, motherboards - along with graphics cards - tend to be one of those that I look at most often from a wide range of manufacturers. And whilst this is all well and good for the high end enthusiasts and power users out there, for those people that are on a mainstream platform and are not really after all the high end styling and features that go with a top end board , there are not that many boards that I have looked at in the grand scheme of things.

The introduction of the first member of the new Cougar Point chipset family, the Z77 Express, happened several weeks before the availability of the Sandy BridgeCPUs they were designed for. This led to review sites having to test new chipsets with older Sandy Bridge processors. While Z77 motherboards are perfectly capable of running Sandy Bridge CPUs, they're really designed to showcase Ivy Bridge. Now that Benchmark Reviews actually has a Core i7-3770K CPU in hand, we can show you how it performs in ASUS' new P8Z77-V Deluxe motherboard, a top-of-the-line product with so many features it's hard to keep track of them all.

The introduction of the first member of the new Cougar Point chipset family, the Z77 Express, happened several weeks before the availability of the Sandy Bridge CPUs they were designed for, so we've seen a number of these motherboards become available at retail recently. ASUS has provided Benchmark Reviews with a sample of their top-end P8Z77-V Deluxe LGA1155 motherboard, which may well set a new high-water marks for "most features crammed onto a motherboard."

The ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE is a high-end socket 1155 motherboard targeted to the forthcoming "Ivy Bridge" processors (third-generation Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 processors) and also supporting the current "Sandy Bridge" models (second-generation Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 processors). Let's see what the ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE will have to offer.

Want a motherboard that won't have you wishing you chose differently? There are plenty of reasons why ASUS' P8Z77-V DELUXE deserves your consideration. It's a feature-packed board that gives you everything you'd hope for in a motherboard - and then throws in some extra for good measure.
