Even though the Intel Z68 chipset is out there, motherboards based on the Intel P67 continue to be attractive options for systems based on Intel socket 1155 CPUs. In fact, according to ASUS, the sales of P67-based motherboards are still outperforming those of Z68-based products. The Sabertooth P67 is a top mid-range (or entry high-end, depending on your point of view) motherboard that focuses on quality. Let's see what is so special about this model.

ASUS has some tough shoes to fill. Fortunately, they're familiar shoes; their own, in fact. A long string of high performance motherboards that got adopted simultaneously by the enthusiast and gaming sets, led ASUS to create a specialty brand segment they call "Republic of Gamers". The ROG Creed goes like this: "The Republic of Gamers is committed to delivering the most innovative and best performing PC solutions to enhance the gaming experience of power users." That's a tall order, especially in the competitive PC component market where today's news is already old news. One of the newest members of this Republic is the Maximus II GENE, part of a new group of small form factor components that give nothing away in performance to their larger brethren. Benchmark Reviews is pleased to review this latest offering, based on the Intel P45 and ICH10R, and we put it through the wringer against a well known full ATX-size reference boa! rd.

You'll absolutely like how much detail goes into the design. It's an excellent match for a delicious processor series. Next to being one of the most feature rich X58 products we tested so far, we do believe it has massive tweaking potential as well. If you'd buy this product right now, you'll likely will have to flash the BIOS a couple of times before it has reached it's fullest potential. But I didn't mind and figured it was worth it. Within a couple of weeks, this little diamond won't be so rough any more and though the board already shines ... by then it'll be downright good.

Foxconn H55MX-S is priced under the psychological threshold of $100. Naturally, it has but basic functionality and isn't meant to be overclocked. At the same time, it has a few advantages you don't normally find in products cheaper than a hundred bucks.

KitGuru has covered the Sandybridge platform fairly regularly in the last month, analysing Intel’s K processors, and pushing them to their limits. Today however we are taking our first look at an MSI board, the fully loaded P67A-GD65. This features MSI’s clever Icy Choke Technology.

If you have to choose between these two models, it's really easy. Deluxe has a tad better power supply system and a formally better audio codec. But EVO offers eSATA on the rear panel. You have to agree that the boards are very similar. The key difference is TurboV Remote that is not available for EVO.

At the end of last month during Computex we saw the AMD 990FX chipset launch which brought with it some strong features. One of the more appealing ones was that it supports the new Bulldozer CPUs that are due out later this year. Because AMD aren't changing the socket, though, for the first generation of Bulldozer we can have boards now that support it while also supporting the current crop of CPUs from AMD.

After X79 proving to be a pricey upgrade this Christmas, a lot of users are still looking at what the famous Z68 platform has to offer, and with prices falling as we get closer to that special day of the holiday season, it's the perfect time to upgrade it seems. Couple this fantastic value with a range of components that can really be pushed to their limits including the 2500k, 2600k and the newest 2700k processors and you have a system that will last the test of time, or at least until Intel bring out Ivy Bridge.
