Even though the Intel Z68 chipset is out there, motherboards based on the Intel P67 continue to be attractive options for systems based on Intel socket 1155 CPUs. In fact, according to ASUS, the sales of P67-based motherboards are still outperforming those of Z68-based products. The Sabertooth P67 is a top mid-range (or entry high-end, depending on your point of view) motherboard that focuses on quality. Let's see what is so special about this model.

Even though the Intel Z68 chipset is out there, motherboards based on the Intel P67 continue to be attractive options for systems based on Intel socket 1155 CPUs. In fact, according to ASUS, the sales of P67-based motherboards are still outperforming those of Z68-based products. ASUS offers a wide range of motherboards based on this chipset, and today we are going to take a look at the most high-end model from this manufacturer, the Maximus IV Extreme, which offers four PCI Express x16 slots supporting high speeds and a myriad of advanced options for the extreme enthusiast.

A few months later in May Intel launched an updated Sandy Bridge chipset called Z68 which essentially takes the best features of the P67 and H67 and combines them into one. With a Z68 board, users can overclock the CPU and use the integrated Intel HD graphics. Previously, if you wanted to overclock, you had to buy a P67 board and you had to use a discrete graphics card. If you wanted to use the integrated graphics, you needed an H67 board but then you couldn't overclock the CPU. In addition to these combined features, Z68 also introduces a new feature called Smart Response Technology (SRT) which uses a solid state drive to cache data from a traditional spinning hard drive.

GIGABYTE has recently released the latest motherboard in the G1 Killer line. The GIGABYTE G1.SNIPER2 is the first in this line of boards to support the second generation of Intel Core processors. The GIGABYTE G1.SNIPER2 features the Intel Z68 chipset as well as PCI Express Gen 3! When we looked at the GIGABYTE G1 Assassin X58 motherboard we were thoroughly impressed, will the G1.SNIPER2 be hold true to that standard? Read on to find out!

When we reviewed the ASUS Sabertooth 990FX motherboard several weeks ago, the planned launch date for AMD's new AM3+ compatible Bulldozer chips was September 19th. Finally on October 12th the chips began popping into online inventories everywhere. Unfortunately a slew of reviews published that same day gave the FX series Zambezi chips scathing remarks. Despite lackluster performance from the new FX processors, AM3+ does still have some benefits to offer AMD users, particularly if you're still on an older AM2+ board or utilizing nVidia SLI. If a $200 motherboard isn't in your budget, the ASUS M5A99X EVO we have for review today may be just your cup of tea.

It's that time again: a new Intel processor line, along with the requisite new chipset and new motherboards. Intel's "Sandy Bridge Extreme" line of processors requires the massive new LGA2011 socket, which in turn is supported by the new X79 chipset. Intel provided a prototype of their top-end DX79SI motherboard with a Core i7-3960X Sandy Bridge E processor for us to test, and Benchmark Reviews will put it through its paces in this review.

The MSI P67A-GD65 motherboard brings forth a lot for computer enthusiasts to get excited about, not the least of which are dual PCI Express x16 videocard slots, (4) USB 3.0 ports, (6) SATA 6GB/s ports and specialized tools for seasoned overclockers. For example, if you're one to break out a digital multimeter while overclocking there are handy voltage read points next to the boards' DDR3 memory slots. In the continuing war on capacitor dominance, MSI have turned to low profile heat tolerant solid-state Tantalum caps around the LGA1155 CPU socket.

With a motherboard being one of the main component decisions that a user must choose, we see things being shaken up slightly in terms of how the market looks. We've always seen the likes of Asus and Gigabyte leading the market, but ASRock have had a big push into the high-end segment and have been realeasing some really high-performance, high-quality boards as of late and with the launch of X79, they wanted to continue into this area and show us exactly what they could do with this new technology.

EVGA may have been a little late to the game with their Intel Socket 1155 motherboards. By no means does that mean they aren't making a splash with them. The EVGA Z68 FTW is a damn fine looking motherboard. Looks won't get you the frame rates we all desire though! Does it live up to the expectations that accompany the EVGA name? Or is it all show and no go? Join us as we take a look at the performance of the EVGA Z68 FTW and compare it to a handful of systems!
