KitGuru spent a day in London learning about Asus’ next range of motherboards which are based on the next generation Intel platform. There are a number of new features that excite us and we look forward to testing the motherboards fully when they’re released.

The ECS H67H2-M motherboard supports quad-core Intel 2nd Generation Core i3/i5/i7 2xxx-series socket 1155 32nm Sandy Bridge processors. The LGA1155 socket is not compatible with existing LGA1156 processors, nor are the upcoming LGA1155 CPUs backwards compatible with existing LGA1156 motherboards despite the common processor names. ECS' H67H2-M motherboard has one PCI Express 2.0 x16 videocard slot that runs with 16-lanes of bandwidth, two PCI Express 2.0 x1 slots and a legacy PCI slot care of an ITE controller. The Intel H67 has notably dropped native support for PCI. The MicroATX ECS H67H2-M features four dual channel DDR3-1066/1333 memory slots which can accommodate up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM in 32-bit OS', 16GB in 64-bit Windows 7.

Foxconn have been out of the consumer channel market for quite some time now with their focus more on OEM markets for the likes of some big players out there. Whilst this has been going on, we have seen Intel move forward, ready for the launch of Sandy Bridge and the new socket 1155 processors.

Sapphire has been in the game for a long time. The company is best known not only for making video cards, but also for making some of the best on the market when AMD (previously ATI) are on top of their game. Sapphire getting into motherboards isn't really anything new, as we've seen them offer AMD ones for a while with the Pure line. The bottom line is, though, that AMD haven't been a dominant force in the CPU market for a long time and the Sapphire line of motherboards pretty much slipped under the radar.

What we liked about the P8P67 Deluxe: quite rich functionality, compact and efficient cooling system, convenient layout, high-quality CPU VRM, useful proprietary technologies and tools, good accessory bundle.

With Sandy Bridge in a state of hiatus for the next couple of months, a specific sector of our audience may decide to opt for the previous-generation platform which is now thoroughly tried and tested. These people are more likely to be building a media system which doesn’t require all the processing grunt that Sandy Bridge has to offer.

Earlier on today we visited the GIGABYTE headquarters in Taipei and had a good old fashioned full look at its newest motherboard that will be officially launched next week at CeBIT in Germany. We are talking about the X58A-OC aka Hi Cookie's baby. GIGABYTE has long wanted to produce a motherboard dedicated strictly to overclockers - that wait is now over. We are talking about a board that doesn't just overclock well, but one that cuts out the crap and nonsense and just gets down to the business of high-end overclocking.

Let's dive into GIGABYTE's P67A-UD4. This is the "little brother" to the UD7 that we have already told you about. The P67A-UD4 is sort of a scaled back version of the UD7. You get dual x8 SLI and Crossfire and lose a few other features on top of that. Of course, it is not marketed to the same high-end crowd as the UD7, so it does not need the same feature set. But even without Three-Way SLI the UD4 is still a member of the Ultra Durable line and has a great feature set of its own.
