I have been using the Microsoft Zune for a little over a month now, and I am really enjoying it. I would not recommend it for those who want a super portable media player, but if you want to transport a fairly large collection of audio and video files with you, this 30GB unit can accommodate you nicely. I see it as a good choice for use at work, with a home stereo, or in a car.

With the next version of Visual Studio soon to be upon us, we're taking a look at what's worth waiting for. While some animosity exists around certain decisions made by Microsoft, VS11 brings a lot to the table, most notably the addition of a robust environment for creating Metro-based apps.

Adafruit originally announced a $1000 reward for the first user to produce working drivers, though this prize was subsequently raised to $2000, then $3000. The first few hacks are merely a Proof-Of-Concept, but still show amazing potential for it with a PC.

The setup process is pretty easy and the room I was in seemed to be just big enough with me being able to stand in the correct spot and Kinect getting my whole body. Once I was setup and stopped looking stupid waving at my TV, I pulled out Kinect Adventures which it said to insert initially and threw in Dance Central.

OK, the chances of the next XBox being called 720 are 50:50 at best but, for now, at least you all know what we’re talking about. While the name and final design for the box and packaging might still be up in the air, the internals appear to have been locked down. KitGuru investigates.

For those of you who don't know me as well as you should, I am very much like our Editor-in-Chief "the chc", in that I have many electronics and other gadgets lying around the house. From the latest Core i7 personal computers, the usual iPod and iPhones, all the way to HDTVs with high performance personal surround sound systems -- I won't pretend that I am not a geek at heart! However, there are one or two things I am missing for my Toshiba Regza LX177 57" LCD HDTV. Although I have a Sony PlayStation 3 for gaming and Blu-ray entertainment, it does not necessarily have enough space to store all the audio and movie files for my personal leisure time -- not to mention the PlayStation 3 isn't a particularly brilliant network streaming device like the QNAP NMP-1000. Micca has come along in an attempt to address this problem at a more affordable price. While the MPLAY-HD digital media player does not stream videos over a network like the Patriot Box Office or aforementioned QNAP NMP-1000, it commands a price tag of only $60 at press time -- and it offers two USB 2.0 ports to which anyone can attach their external storage devices with media files and play them from pretty much any TV. All you really need now is one massive external hard drive (Which can be purchased from the money you have saved from buying a network enabled player) to store those illegally obtained... I mean, movies and audio that you have legitimately purchased from your local media shop and online stores, haha. Meanwhile, we fired one up to see how it works out in real life. Read on to see what we found!

Home automation (HA) covers a wide spectrum of capabilities and devices, spanning the gap from placing a light timer on the fish tank to a complex system that manages many of the mundane aspects of lighting, HVAC and scheduled activities in the house or business. Historically these highly integrated systems, capable of things like automatically dimming the lights when watching a movie, were constrained to high-end consumers due to hardware cost, complexity, and the locked-down dealer relationship between OEMs and custom installers (CI). While this works for both groups, it is blocking for those with a more limited budget – which is where the Mi Casa Verde Vera 3 and VeraLitecome in. As a fully functional Z-Wave HA controller, it offers the same feature set and capabilities that more expensive options provide, but in DIY (do-it-yourself) friendly format where managing devices and scenes entails a quick browser session instead of a wallet thumping from your local CI.
