The Nikon Coolpix S2500 is priced at under £100 and offers a 12.1 mega pixel image sensor, a 2.7-inch LCD monitor and a slim body. Offered in a variety of colour schemes and including a number of auto functions means this digital camera is a very tempting point-and-shoot camera purchase. Lets see if it’s worth the money.
Today Technology X is taking a look at the Nikon D7100 18-105 VR Kit, which features the Nikon D7100 DSLR camera body and a AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens … now that’s a mouthful! We’re taking a look at the D7100 and 18-105mm lens from a user’s perspective, showing you some examples of how well the photos and videos turn out. It’s all to do with the sensor size. When you buy a point-and-shoot camera you are getting either one of a couple different kinds of sensors: CMOS or CCD. The problem with point-and-shoots are the sensors, which tend to be very small compared to a DSLR. That doesn’t mean you can’t take a great photo; it just means the larger the surface area of your sensor the more detail and dynamic range can be stored in an image. Couple that with a good lens and you can obtain truly amazing photos that you could only dream of with a point-and-shoot. The major competitions of DSLRs currently are mirrorless-system cameras. Their small size, quality, and larger sensors are all hot selling points. We would still recommend a DSLR camera for learning purposes, and the Nikon D3200 surely is a great camera to practice with.
The Nikon Coolpix S640 is touted as the fastest camera in the Coolpix range with an autofocus speed that compares favorably to digital SLRs. It also has a 28-140mm equivalent Nikkor 5x zoom lens with optical vibration reduction, a 12-megapixel sensor, and a 2.7" LCD screen. With specs like this the Coolpix S640 looks like a real winner. So we set out to find out if it would come out as a champion in our testing.
