This is the second Giada Mini PC I have had an opportunity to lay my hands on and I must say I am impressed. This unit, sporting the Intel ATOM D2500 dual core, has a solid feel and just enough ports to be useful without affecting its overall comeliness.

Home automation (HA) covers a wide spectrum of capabilities and devices, spanning the gap from placing a light timer on the fish tank to a complex system that manages many of the mundane aspects of lighting, HVAC and scheduled activities in the house or business. Historically these highly integrated systems, capable of things like automatically dimming the lights when watching a movie, were constrained to high-end consumers due to hardware cost, complexity, and the locked-down dealer relationship between OEMs and custom installers (CI). While this works for both groups, it is blocking for those with a more limited budget – which is where the Mi Casa Verde Vera 3 and VeraLitecome in. As a fully functional Z-Wave HA controller, it offers the same feature set and capabilities that more expensive options provide, but in DIY (do-it-yourself) friendly format where managing devices and scenes entails a quick browser session instead of a wallet thumping from your local CI.

LG’s 55LM960V is a very attractive and thin TV with a different-looking base, and the image-quality is outstanding. The contrast was a little bit of a let-down, considering that the nano full LED technology has more potential. The colour rendering is very good, and LG's passive 3D technology works well, preferable over active 3D because it's easier on the eyes. A nice library of 3D content is included even. The TV is complete in terms of features, and the Smart TV functionality is very comprehensive.

Cloud computing has been around for a while now, but because of the initial startup investments, a lot of small businesses have not yet made the jump to this new technology. In some cases, this may be a wise decision, because the tools and resources the cloud offers might not be necessary in such a small office. However, the cloud has made it possible for SMBs to access powerful tools and services – enough that it’s actually possible for them to compete on some level with much larger companies

Today we are looking at the Intel Next Unit of Computing (NUC)! This desktop PC uses uses a tiny form factor that measures just 4”×4”×2” and still managed to pack a mean punch thanks to the Third Generation Intel Core i3 'Ivy Bridge' processor inside. Read on to see how this system is assembled and performs after we install Windows 8 on it! Is the NUC the future of computing?

We tested 32 powerline adapters, and compared the different models in a round-up. Last year we also tested 30 powerline adapters, but most of those were 200Mbps models. This time around, most were 500Mbps adapters, so it was interesting to find out if it’s worth getting the more powerful (and more expensive) type. We compared the performance of 200Mbps and 500Mbps models over short and long distances, and with added interference. The results weren’t exactly what you would expect.
