Most people i know connect all of their computers with their modem/router wirelessly mainly because they don't like having many cables around and quite honestly who can blame them. I on the other hand use Wi-Fi on very rare occasions and only when I’m neither at my office or at home. The reasons behind is that i don't like people using my wireless connection without authorization (there are plenty of hacks out there that enable one to use your Wi-Fi even if you have password protected it) and also because i want to enjoy the highest possible transfer speeds. So i have chosen the best possible solution by routing Ethernet CAT5 cables throughout the walls of both my home and office something which may however not be easy for most people. For those who can't do something like that and don't really trust or like the speed of their wireless connection current Powerline adapters could be the solution and today we are testing the latest ICY BOX IB-PL550D 500Mbit/s Powerline adapter kit.
My smartphone is dead, it run out of battery again! This is a phrase that i can't really begin to count the how many times I’ve heard it from people sitting next to me in a cafeteria or at the beach. The same people are also the ones who ask all the time about the things they can do in order to prolong their smartphone's battery life and the answer is not that hard. You see right now technology progresses at such fast rates that naturally some things fall behind, one of those things are batteries (although not for long according to scientists) and so when you have a vast number of functions embedded in a smartphone along with a rather huge LCD screen it's to be expected that today’s batteries can't last long. Because of that i always carry along with me a portable battery pack just to be on the safe side of things and so far i haven't found myself in a position where one of my smartphones has completely run out of juice. Today we are taking a look at yet another such portable battery, this time it's the ICY BOX IB-PBa7800 7800mAh Power Bank by RaidSonic.
Many people who enjoy watching movies but don't really know much about technology have recently turned towards Blu-Ray players not only because of their very affordable price tags but also due to extreme simplicity, just drop the disk into the tray/slot, press play and that's it. I also used to do that, starting almost 14 years ago when i bought my first Philips DVD player and then with the EP35 HD-DVD player by Toshiba which although quite impressive and aggressively priced it eventually lost to the Blu-Ray format by SONY (it's worth checking out that story if you are not familiar with it). However during the last 5 years or so with the introduction of standalone hardware media players it became quite obvious that the next generation/future format would not be based on optical drives but in standalone media file formats capable of reproducing FullHD content like the extremely popular matroska video format (.MKV extension). RaidSonic has been manufacturing such media players for quite some time and their latest Icy Box IB-MP3011PLUS is more than enough to remind us of that.
Hard disk drive docking stations are amongst the very few things that have really made things easier for me (and i bet for most of you as well) since it's a lot more convenient to just insert an disk drive in them and start working on it than opening your PC Case and installing it inside. That being said HDD docking stations are not really ment as a permanent solution since an internal SATA connection is a lot faster than eSATA and USB 2.0/3.0 altogether (and you can't really damage a drive as easy as when it's out in the open) but that doesn't necessarily mean that you can't use them for a long time if you don't really care about having the best possible transfer speeds. However that's not all and so recently we see more and more of those docking stations featuring cloning capabilities allowing pretty much anyone to clone a drive without much effort. The latest RaidSonic ICY BOX IB-120CL-U3 HDD Docking & Clone Station is such a device and we decided to take it for a ride.
Nach längerem haben wir wieder einen Mediaplayer für das Wohnzimmer im Test. Diesmal handelt es sich um den IB-MP3011Plus von RaidSonic. Da die aktuellen Player unterschiedlicher Firmen hauptsächlich unter einem Realtek-Chipsatz laufen, liegt es natürlich an der Umsetzung der Möglichkeiten, die der Chipsatz bietet. Inwieweit Raidsonic hier eine gute Firmware entwickelt hat und ob sich das Gerät im Wohnzimmer bewährt, wollen wir heute in einem kleinen Überblick darstellen.
Raidmax ist hierzulande schon seit der Jahrtausendwende als etablierter Gehäuse-Hersteller bekannt. Speziell die Modelle Scorpio, Aztec und Samurai sind vielleicht nicht namentlich, aber dafür optisch vielen Anwendern ein Begriff. Durch solche Gehäuse erwarb sich Raidmax sehr schnell einen Ruf als Gehäuse-Hersteller von farbenfrohen und verspielten Frontbereichen. Obwohl recht innovativ, waren viele Anwender noch nicht bereit für soviel Experimentierfreude. Weshalb solche Gehäuse dann auch vornehmlich im Kinderzimmer landeten.
Novelty gadget trends seem to last a holiday or maybe go as long as a store continues to stick with their slogan of “That’s Easy” by Staples. Of course most of these novelty gifts are not built to last and only do a simple task for the life of the product.
