The introduction of the latest Intel i7 processors have certainly caused something of a shock with a TDP of a whopping 130W. Air cooling solutions have been adapted with dual fans, bigger heatsinks, and more heatpipes in order to try and keep the all important CPU cool. With Intel now revealing two new additions to the i7 range – the 975 and 950 – which run at 3.33GHz and 3.06GHz respectively even more emphasis has been placed on cooling.
Traditionally, air cooling is the lowest form of cooling followed by water, then phase changing and all the way up to liquid nitrogen and helium for extreme overclockers; without a doubt all of this and more will be put into practise at the Gigabyte Open Overclocking Championships (GOOC 2009) at Computex to see who can overclock the P45 the furthest, 8GHz is the current world record.
Anyway for the majority of users all of these extreme cooling solutions are either too complicated or too expensive and just not practical. However, water cooling has become more available and easier to use with kits like the one we will be looking at today - the AMA Aragon 900. However, kits like this have a seemingly bad reputation for comprising of a bunch of lower end components unlike custom builds. So let’s see if the Aragon 900 can buck the trend...

Bevor wir aber zu den richtigen Rezepturen greifen und euch zeigen, was dazu nötig wäre, noch ein paar Hintergrundinformationen zum Thema AHCI: das Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) ist ein offener Schnittstellen-Standard für Serial-ATA-Controller. Er ermöglicht es, mit diesen Controllern per Software zu kommunizieren und somit die Betriebszustände einzustellen, die den Laufwerken alle Vorteile von AHCI ermöglichen. Das bedeutet im Klartext, dass der Betrieb von SATA-Hostadaptern im AHCI-Betriebsmodus aktiviert wird, um Festplatten-Funktionen wie Native Command Queuing (NCQ) oder eSATA-Hot-Plugging nutzen zu können. Native Command Queuing benötigen wir um mit einem Datenträger mehrere Kommandos entgegenzunehmen und diese in einer Warteschlange (Queue) entsprechend zu verwalten. Das Command Queuing kann den Datendurchsatz steigern, wenn viele Prozesse oder Threads gleichzeitig auf die Festplatte zugreifen. eSATA-Hot-Plugging ist nichts anderes als die Fähigkeit, ein externes SATA Laufwerk schnell und unkompliziert ins System einzubinden und die volle SATA Geschwindigkeit abhängig vom vorhandenen SATA-Controller zu nutzen...
As router, the Netgear WNDR4700 certainly managed to convince us of its right to exist. Its performance is outstanding, and it can even hold its own with the best high-end routers on the market. Adding an internal hard disk to the mix is not a bad idea in our opinion. However, in the case of the WNDR4700 it's mainly useful for making back-ups, which is a breeze with the excellent ReadyShare Vault software. The transfer rates to and from the internal disk inside the WNDR4700 are good, but the speed of the USB 3.0 ports are very close which almost makes it pointless to put a hard disk inside. On the other hand, now you have multiple fast connections you can use any way you want. The SD card reader is also a nice bonus.
