A couple of motherboard manufacturers are now including SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0 chips on their motherboards. In this to the point article, we take look at the performance for SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0 compared with their predecessors.
Today for review I’ve got a little GPS receiver from Motorola just called the T805 from our friends at MobileFun. It’s small and portable, it fits right in the palm of your hand really. The T805 can be used with basically any Bluetooth enabled phone but you can also use it with a netbook or laptop, as long as you’ve got GPS software on it. The T805 comes with a car charger and mount and a trial subscription to Motonav navigation software. In my time with the T805 I’ve found that it works very well and it’s a nice solution to add GPS to your devices.

The Vantec SuperSpeed USB 3.0 card is definitely fast. It can supply enough bandwidth for SATA hard drives to work at their full potential, and works much better than the chipsets on many motherboards. While testing USB flash sticks in our test labs, we have discovered that the quality of the chipset on the motherboard greatly affects the USB throughput. The NotePal U2 comes equipped with a pair of 80mm low profile fans measuring only 10mm thick. They also have a grill on the intake side to prevent injury from the fan blades. The unique advantage this unit has over many competitors is the ability to move the fans to a more advantageous position like under an inlet vent or where a hot hard drive sits. Worth considering is that many notebook manufacturers pay little to the cooling of the hard drive which can significantly shorten its lifespan. The ability to cool this area of the notebook could increase its life.
