It’s only been about a year since we reviewed Creative’s Sound Blaster Recon 3D soundcard and they’re back again with a new line of products, the Sound Blaster Z series. Today we’ll be reviewing the Sound Blaster Z, which is the entry level soundcard in the Sound Blaster Z series of soundcards. While the Sound Blaster Z will be available for purchase starting now...

Our tests prove the good quality of the new X-Fi Titanium family. These cards are honestly positioned for gamers now, being the best choice in this category. PCI Express itself does not give any benefits to the cards. But X-Fi Titaniums, owing to Creative's efforts, provide extra protection from cracking, which was a serious problem with previous X-Fi PCI cards.

Today we will be looking at a most unusual beast, the Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD. The Sound Blaster name instantly brings up thoughts of gaming audio, and the X-Fi chip certainly provides the muscle for that. Take a look at the card itself though, and you could be forgiven for thinking that the designers could not have cared less about gaming. The box prominently features talk of SNR, THD, ASIO drivers and interchangeable op-ampsall the hallmarks of a music-oriented card.

Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD is the latest sound card from Creative, aimed at both gamers and audiophiles, thanks to the included high quality components. For the first time, Creative offers us the possibility to swap the OPamps, to fine-tune even more the sound quality.

Creative Labs have been amongst the biggest producers of multimedia audio equipment for the best part of the last fifteen years. Their well known presence in the industry has also seen them being several award winning products and a long line of gamer based support which has consistently grown over the years; this thanks in no small part to Creative labs proprietary environmental audio system, EAX. Lending from that vast track record of experience building audio equipment, Creative have now begun to develop systems based on Bluetooth which are oriented towards iPhone and iPod use.

To this day the success of EAX is yet to flounder thanks very much to the strong backing of the physical hardware itself, namely the X-Fi chipset which we first took a look at a couple of years ago. At that time we were already very impressed by how it sounded, and also with the interface it offered users.

Creating a bootable flash drive equipped with a Windows installer or Linux distro is a simple affair today, but what about creating one with DOS? Yes, DOS. The need for such a thing can hit you when you least expect it, especially as a hardware enthusiast, but luckily, creating one is very, very easy.

From all the stuff I and Cássio saw during CES 2009 probably the craziest one was a series of retro-looking phone handsets for your cell phone, from a company called YUBZ (pronounced "why you busy". They are available in two versions: wired or wireless, using Bluetooth technology. Now imagine you walking down the street, your phone ringing and you picking up a red phone receiver like the "hot line" between Batman and Commissioner Gordon on the 1960's TV show. Definitely a terrific ice-breaker, especially when you go partying.
