Thermal paste is quite literally the first line of defense in the WAR on heat. I prefer to think of my thermal compound as Special Forces. It operates best with a small tactical insertion working both separately and in conjunction with the larger forces (Heatsink /cooler) to ensure a successful operation. There are many choices on the market, today we test the OCZ Freeze and find out how well it works.

Some time ago, the e-book readers came to the market, but none had achieved so much success as the Kindle, the first device of that kind developed by Amazon, a company whose primary focus is on books.

I'm a huge fan of touchscreen based PCs. Every time I go to my local computer store I can't help but go in and start touching the screen and navigate through a few windows before I move on. Until now, though, there hasn't been much outside of pre-built PCs when it comes to getting in on the touch screen action. Today, however, AOC bring a 21.5'' screen that looks to be the goods for people who want to get their touch fix.

In the past year, we’ve seen a number of different wireless streaming devices intended to help bridge the gap between the distance between users and the television. Unlike recent products like the Boxee Box and GoogleTV, which are intended to connect directly to your television full-time, wireless USB streaming devices such as the Veebeam HD try a different route opting to leverage your existing computer from anywhere in the room to stream content to the big screen. This is a great product in theory but can it mesh with how users currently use and expect their home theater PCs to behave?

For many computer enthusiasts, dedicating a machine just for HTPC isn't a big deal but not everyone wants to spend extra money or hassle setting up a purpose-built computer. This is where media players come in. The Patriot PBO Box Office is a multimedia playback device that interfaces between your television and any digital media you may have stored, such as on an external USB drive or networked computer. It supports full HD video up to 1080p, Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound, UPnP streaming, IMS and custom RMS feeds and a whole slew of popular video, picture and music file types. In other words, there's not much that the PBO can't play.

Continuing our series of Beginner's Guides for HTPC and Home Theater, this guide offers ten basic tips for getting your HTPC up and running smoothly. Most of these were learned the hard way, hope that sharing means you don't have to...Recording and scanning big TV files for commercials hits a drive really hard. Having at least two physical drives separates the bandwidth necessary to keep the user interface (UI) responsive and minimize the risk for glitches during recording and playback. After adding up all the traffic caused by Media Center recording and ShowAnalyzer reading back and forth in the file while you try to watch it (all potentially multiplied by the number of tuners); then add in a couple “extenders” - you’ll be glad you put the operating system (OS) on one disk and recordings on another.

The easiest way to get yourself some faster network transfer rates is to throw a Gigabit switch into the mix. That's what I'm looking to do today with the Edimax ES 5500G 5 port gigabit switch. Is it worth the money? Does it give good transfer rates? That's what we're here to find out.
