Intel will finally launch 8 core CPUs for desktops with the 2014 enthusiast grade Haswell-E platform. With Intel’s Ivy Bridge-E platform (scheduled for 2H 2013) to be a bummer considering the minor minor specifications and performance bump over the 2012 Sandy Bridge-E platform, all eyes turn to the 2014 Haswell-E enthusiast grade platform. And we may just have some good news that gets your excitement engines started.

In terms of getting a network connection from one point to another in a way that most folk consider neat and orderly, some ways are easier than others. Running Ethernet or coaxial cable can be messy for existing structures, and sometimes there’s a reason not to use WiFi. When those two standard options are out, the next one to consider is Powerline networking. Powerline is oft-forgotten, because most folk reach for a better WiFi router when they need it. The 500 Mbps RPLC-500 Kit from Rosewill is a new contender in this space. It offers a smaller wall wart adapter than some of its competitors’ offerings and great power saving features. Its plug-and-play operation lets users get up and running in no time.

On the table today is a 2.5” drive rack by Icy Dock. The MB994SP-4S can hold four 2.5” drives, and fit all of them in a single 5.25” bay in your desktop or server. It can fit any 2.5” drive up to 15mm in height (yes, that includes Western Digital’s extremely popular 2.5” Velociraptor drives!) The chassis of the rack is 100% aluminum, which gives a solid feel and a clean look. It also has dual 40mm exhaust fans to keep the higher-RPM drives cool. Read on to find out more.

It has been a while since we looked at a prebuilt system designed for the enthusiast gamer who has little time, or interest in building a new kick ass system. With this in mind PC Specialist sent over their Vortex XT-270FB system which on paper looks very impressive. Is a liquid cooled overclocked Core i7 2700k @ 4.8ghz with 120GB Solid State drive and an AMD HD7970 enough to get the gaming juices flowing?

Wireless connectivity is amongst the most popular technologies right now so it's only natural to see it gain more ground over wired connectivity each day that goes by although currently we have to admit that it's nowhere close to the second. However much like with most "new" technologies that matters very little so most companies out there focus in manufacturing devices that have something to do with Wi-Fi and the amongst the very last products to hit the market are the wireless streamers like the Kingston MobileLite Wireless or the RaidSonic ICY BOX IB-WRP201SD. Not only do such devices allow consumers to wirelessly share files onto Wi-Fi compatible devices but they can also act as wireless range extenders and in some cases even as portable batteries (power banks). Well it seems that EasyAcc things this is a market they can also do well in and so today we will be taking a look at their Wi-Stor Wizard 4-1 Wireless Storage.

AMD's 'Richland' platform is a largely incremental upgrade to the companies mobile APU processing platform; a moderate boost to CPU clock speeds and a collection of small power saving refinements built on existing architecture. The four new mobile A-series APUs include the quad-core 3.5GHz A10-5750M and 3.1GHz A8-5550M, dual-core 3.5GHz A6-5350M and 3.3GHz A4-5150M processor. Let's begin with a look a the spec chart.

Using the Vantec NexStar WiFi dock is not much different than any other external dock when wired. Simply plug it into the USB 3.0 connector and the drive shows up just like a flash drive would. Access speeds through USB 3.0 is bottle-necked by the USB interface but still speedy as compared to USB 2.0. We used a 3Gbps Crucial M500 SSD in our test to make sure the drive wasn't the limiting factor. We hit 422MB/s read and 402MB/s write speeds with this docking station and SSD combination. Wireless performance will vary widely depending on the connection type, signal strength and paired hardware...
