The home network is one of the most consistently neglected things in modern computing, usually relegated to the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” category even by most enthusiasts. However, it is also a market with constantly evolving technologies just like everything else and in the current landscape of always online games and every phone and gadget starving for wireless data why wouldn’t you want a network you can rely on? Earlier we reviewed My Net AC1300 from Western Digital and today we are back to put the ASUS RT-AC56U through the same paces. Is wireless AC technology all it’s cracked up to be? We will soon find out.

Veebeam is a company that I met at last year’s Pepcom trade show and they were kind enough to send us a sample of their Veebeam HD. This device works by streaming high definition video via Wireless USB. Not to be confused with AppleTV, GoogleTV or Roku; it’s not so much a media center as a media streamer.

The ACTi D32 was a positive surprise. The camera is sturdy, water and dust proof, with extensive yet well-organized software features. Most importantly, the video quality is excellent, especially in daylight the picture is very sharp. At night the D32 is also effective with its built-in IR LED, even if we have tested cameras that were even better in the dark. The D32 is nevertheless one of the best cameras in this area that we've tested.

Many years ago it was quite common to find notebook computers sporting PCMCIA cards. If you wanted to add a Token Ring, Ethernet or Modem to your laptop, you had to buy a PC Card that plugged into one of the available slots in the side of the chassis. Even after these devices began to become integrated, there would be new technologies emerge that required purchasing an add-in card, although the need for such expandability slowly waned as USB became the popular choice for external peripherals. With the advent of SSD technology and eSATA interfaces, it has become easy to saturate a measly 60MB/s USB 2.0 connection. Obviously a faster method of transfer is needed and USB 3.0 just hasn't materialized as quickly as we hoped. Thus for review today we have the Vantec Dual eSATA ExpressCard

So far 2012 is the only year inside which I’ve seen so many manufacturers release and announce both network/hdd media players and HTPC solutions which brings about the question which is the best solution for people. Honestly that's not something one can answer mainly because each of us has a different set of needs and requirements so whereas some people just want to watch a movie in which case a network/hdd media player would be the obvious choice others may want to also play games, surf the web, use social sites and a lot more so an HTPC would be a far more suitable solution. Personally i like to have several different devices each ment for a different purpose so naturally I’ll always prefer an good network/hdd media player and an desktop system over an single HTPC (unless of course i couldn't afford both). Today however we will be testing one of the entry-level media players in the market, the aios HD media center by Pivos Technology Group.

Diamond’s UE3000 is one of the simplest products we've ever taken a look at, but it’s also one that could prove to be a life-saver if the network card in your desktop or notebook decides to die without notice. It also happens to be extremely reliable, causing us to forget we’re even running a USB adapter, versus onboard or add-in.

This weekend many witnessed the release of Apple’s iPad; an event that could be equated to the premiere of a summer blockbuster movie. James Cameron’s Avatar and Apple’s iPad have more in common than most can imagine. There were lines of people, great expectations, and numerous detractors before seeing it firsthand; these descriptions can apply to either event. Whether the iPad is the financial and critical success as the Cameron movie remains to be seen. Today we will look at the great and not so good aspects of Apple’s latest device.
