A few months ago, we tested seven methods for applying thermal compound in order to determine which was the best. At the time, we concluded that a small dot in the center of the CPU is the best method to apply thermal compound. But this conclusion may be applied only for the hardware we used, and, since we ran our tests using a CPU cooler with a mirror-like base, we couldn't extrapolate that result for coolers with different characteristics, such as direct touch heatpipes coolers. In those coolers, there are gaps and irregularities on the base of the cooler which may need a different quantity or procedure to apply thermal compound. That's why we are testing again. This time we will try to answer the question, "What is the best way to apply thermal grease on direct-touch heatpipes CPU coolers?

"Current AMD processors have two external busses. One is used on the communication between the CPU and the memory, and it is simply called "memory bus." The other is used on the communication between the CPU and all other PC components through the motherboard chipset and is called HyperTransport an I/O (Input/Output) bus. In this tutorial, we will be explaining how the HyperTransport bus works and clarifying common mistakes people assume about this bus.

The SilverStone EC03 is an internal expansion card that uses a single lane PCI Express slot on the motherboard to provide SuperSpeed USB 3.0 functionality. Its single USB 3.0 internal connector offers output for dual front port USB 3.0 support. Is this a good solution to update your aging PC so it can support USB 3.0 devices? Read on to see what this inexpensive solution is and how it performs in our test system.

In the past setting up a home security system required an expensive outlay for cameras and monitoring equipment and a fair amount of technical knowledge. However a company called Stem has helped make remote room monitoring a simple plug and play matter with the release of their iZON Remote Room Monitor. This is a wireless video camera that can be set up anywhere that has an AC outlet and wireless network.

Up for review today I’ve got a Playstation 3 controller, but it’s not just any it’s a special edition Batman Arkham City themed one. The controller is called the Batarang after the famous weapon that Batman uses. It’s not your typical PS3 controller, it’s styled more after an Xbox 360 controller in terms of the layout of the control sticks. The Batarang features seven different lighting effects so you can actually change the colors depending on the mood you’re in or even the game you’re playing. Overall I like the Batarang, it’s not a bad controller even if you’re not using it to play the new Batman Arkham City game.

Today I’ve got a brief review for you of a rather small product from Verbatim called the Pocket Card Reader. It’s just like it sounds, it’s a small and portable card reader that you can take with you on the go. Yes it’s a simple and very basic product but these days you need a card reader that can handle many formats and the Pocket Reader can read most everything except compact flash I think. The reader has a built-in USB cable so you won’t have to worry about carrying one with you, and best of all it’s inexpensive at around $15.

Brr, it’s cold outside! At least here it is, right now it’s 18 degrees in Fahrenheit anyway. To me that’s cold and I don’t like the cold. One of the must have things about cold weather is gloves, but pretty much all gloves are not exactly compatible with our touchscreen devices so using them in the cold weather poses a problem. The trend lately is fixing that problem with gloves that can be used with touchscreens. Today I’ve got a quick review of what I think is a must have accessory if you live in a cold climate. They’re called NuTouch and they’re from NewerTech and they feature a special conductive fiber that’s woven into the fingertips that makes them usable with capacitive devices like phones and tablets.

The STRIKE FX-6 PS3 Controller from SPEEDLINK operates on Bluetooth (so no extra dongles are needed), and comes with some slight modifications compared to the product from Sony: modified shape for better ergonomics, an On/Off button for saving battery power, Rapid Fire function, modified triggers to avoid slipping or anti-slip surfaces on the controller laterals.
