In recent months we tested a number of portable speakers. Especially the wireless Bluetooth manage to raise some eyebrows around the office from time to time, but they're so expensive that we can't really recommend them without any reservations. Jabra's Solemate, which we are reviewing today, also isn't cheap, but it does get everything right.

The smartwatch is still a relatively new concept, and I only say that because their availability, functionality, and technology aren’t quite there yet for them to appear on the “must have” list of many consumers. However, we are seeing more and more companies throw their hat into the smartwatch ring (Apple, Microsoft, etc…), and this “could” lead to yet another phenomenon. So, when we got word that we had a smartwatch coming in for review, I was pretty excited to get my hands on it and see what it could do. Today we will be taking a look at the i’m Watch by an Italian based company called i’m SpA.

In the past setting up a home security system required an expensive outlay for cameras and monitoring equipment and a fair amount of technical knowledge. However a company called Stem has helped make remote room monitoring a simple plug and play matter with the release of their iZON Remote Room Monitor. A guy called Desi Cryer has posted a video on YouTube which suggested a problem on the facial recognition system present on the newest HP laptops that doesn't work with black people. Facial recognition system automatically tracks user's face. On the video, Cryer demonstrate how his HP webcam doesn't follow him, but seems to have no trouble following his white co-worker Wanda Zamen. According to HP the technology used is based on algorithms that measure the difference in intensity of contrast between the eyes and the upper cheek and nose, and the camera might have difficulty "seeing" contrast in conditions where there is insufficient foreground lighting. The company is investigating the problem. Below you can watch the video and see whether HP's webcam is racist or not.

Emulation is a popular pass time for many PC gamers, and in recent year there has been a big increase in GPU horsepower in the mobile market, allowing us to enjoy many classic games on the go, not just on our desktops. The Nvidia Shield is one of the most powerful mobile gaming devices on the market, and this is especially thanks to its Nvidia Tegra 4 GPU/CPU, which is not only capable of running many older games such as those from the Super Nintendo and Mega Drive, but also a lot more advanced 3D titles from consoles such as the Nintendo 64, Sega Dreamcast and more. What I hope to find out today is whether or not these games work well enough to justify using the Nvidia Shield as a dedicated emulation device.

So the desktop PC is a dying breed, you say. Hmmm, are you so sure about that? Since making such a statement infers a comparison, one then has to ask the question "compared to what?" Compared to the way it used to be? Considering that we are discussing one of the most rapidly and continuously evolving technologies known to man, "the way it used to be" can be as little as six months ago. The ongiong need for desktop PCs continues to manifest itself in many ways.
