It's been over ten years since I've last reviewed a Lamptron product on DV Hardware! Back then the company was primarily known for its CCFL products, but now Lamptron is best known for its fan controllers and some of its other modding products. The subject of this review is the Lamptron FC10 Special Edition, a unique four-channel fan controller that uses vintage Nixie tubes!

The Lamptron Fan-Atic 5-channel fan controller controls 60W per each channel with 3 different voltage output - 12VDC, 5VDC, and Off, which correspond to Full RPM, Low RPM, and Off setting on the fans connected to the controller. So you get full speed cooling capacity or low speed quietness at a flip of the switch. Read on to see how this fan controller performs when we put it to the test!

The Fan Controller Touch from LAMPTRON is a nice looking device and allows easy navigation through its touch screen interface, to be able to control the connected fan speeds or see the temperature for each separate channel.

The FC8 Fan Controller from Lamptron sports a classic but stylish look and has 8 channels, each of them that can deliver up to 30W of power. As a customization option, we can change the LEDs for each channel in 7 different colors: White, Blue, Green, Cyan, Red, Purple or Yellow.

The FC5V2 fan controller comes with an improved LCD screen compared to the previous version, has the unique feature of being able to change the screen colour to one of the 7 available choices and provides more than enough power for each of the four channels (up to 30W).

After reading this review you might wonder why you would need to buy a device like this. If you're looking for a NAS to quickly share files, there are other products that are better in terms of pure speed. The performance with the NAS Performance Tester is good, but the 5big Office+ didn't do as well with the more practically-oriented Intel NAS Performance Toolkit. Synology or QNAP have products that are better suited in that case. But if you need a good back-up solution for a small business with an Active Directory and up to 25 PCs, then this is a good solution. The fact that it also looks good, is an added bonus.

A 2 GHz processor and 100 MB/s transfer speeds, that's what the LaCie 2big NAS promises. It's noteworthy, because while LaCie NAS devices are known for their good looks and user-friendly nature, the performance often hasn't been as impressive. We are curious to find out whether this new model will break that trend.

If home theatre system is over budget then you may consider a media player which allows users to run certain of multimedia applications on a TV; this is even better if it is a network media player. KWorld M210 Network Media player is a newly launched network media player which costs less than 100USD with features of full 1080p HD movies, internal storage, Internet streaming programs, support multiple of video codecs & formats and so on.

Coincidentally, soon after I received the KWorld DVD Maker 2, a friend asked if I could help him copy a VHS video onto DVD. I thought this would be a great way to test the DVD Maker 2, not only for quality, but also ease of use – which is a very important thing in today’s technology market where anyone and everyone can buy anything – even your grandparents (as mine have just got the internet!).
