We reviewed Mirrors Edge last year on the high definition consoles and today we are following up with the new PC version which features support for Nvidia PhysX. For those who missed it first time around developer DICE have attempted to recreate a high octane game built around the concept of a futuristic parkour environment. You climb, jump and scale obstacles, all while trying to avoid being shot by bloodthirsty armed troops.
The only thing worth talking about is the mission "No Russian", which you are heavily warned by the game itself. I do think it was put in for pure shock value. Aside from possible anti-terrorism criticisms on the US, it just seems too easy to sit back and let the event unfold. I actually haven't been too fond on these "extreme" first person events from this series lately, it's becoming a lame gimmick.
PC Gaming has evolved over the past 20 years or so. Back in 1990, LucasArts (then called LucasFilm Games) created one of the best adventure games of all time: The Secret of Monkey Island. Back then, the studio had a stream of hits with Indiana Jones, Day of the Tentacle, and the Sam and Max franchise. Other studios were making huge profits with these adventures, such as King's Quest and Phantasmagoria.
Sadly, gamers lost interest in this type of gameplay somewhere in the mid-nineties, about the same time as 3d-acceleration and the PlayStation One came onto the scene. Strange coincedence.
Since the launch of the Vita things have been a little quiet on the release front but now we get one of the first big post release period games in the form of Mortal Kombat. Like MvsC this is an attempt to take an existing game for the home consoles and port it to Vita, with some added functionality so let's find out if it falls into the same camp as the excellent MvsC3 or is closer to the less than impressive Reality Fighters.
If, like me, you are old enough then you may remember playing Mortal Kombat in the arcades almost 20 years ago. It was a game which attracted the young male audience, because it featured plenty of gore and death moves. The ninth game (yes, count ‘em) has just been released and this time, they really are playing hard ball.
MotoGP has always appealed to the true racing fanatics and petrol heads who long for nothing more than thrills, spills and all the excitement they can handle. And it doesn't get much more exciting than watching 20 ambitious - and crazy - riders bomb around a track at speeds in excess of 200 MPH. The one man who does that better than any other is the Italian wizard Valentino Rossi; 6 time MotoGP champion and the undisputed king of two wheeled racing.
Since quite a few people were saying that Warband wasn’t much of a change over the original game, I did my research into the series by playing around ¾ of a year of Mount & Blade senior, checking out the different features, learning the combat model and just getting a feel for the franchise. Now I could go completely in depth with this review and describe every facet of Mount & Blade Warband and is predecessor but that would take forever; really it’s a huge game. So instead I’ll focus on a few key points of the game, giving some pros and some cons and ultimately conclude it to see whether it’s worth its price tag.
