In this article we have decided to make our selection based on the past performance of the developer, publisher and previous title in the series (where appropriate) but ultimately, the game is in the list if we think it looks cool. This is our 20 games for 2012 in no particular order (other than alphabetical)...
If, like me you are in your thirties you might remember the original Choplifter game which was released in 1982 for the Apple II. A few years later it was ported over to other home computers and then in 1985 Sega released an arcade version which proved popular.

Today we'll be taking a look at the most recent FIFA game release by Electronic Arts, FIFA 12. It's been a few months since FIFA 12 came out however in the January sales it may well be on the wish list for some with money burning a hole in their pocket.
Also to assist with soloing content, you gain companions very early in the game. These companions are NPC characters that basically you can control with a hot bar. In general they just beat on an enemy (DPS), take damage and maintain the enemy attention (tank) or just heal you (healer) as the fights go on. This in many ways introduces people new to the genre some of the now very established mechanics. Instead of learning what tank, dps and healers do in guilds or human groups that could lead to frustration, you have an NPC character to help you out. At the lower levels you can even solo some of the group content with them.
There is a lot to like about SWTOR already with group content. At level 10 you are introduced to the game's first flashpoint which is like a story based small operation filled with cut scenes and options to select what to say to the NPC next. The game has a 'roll' system where players are chosen randomly as to whose selection will actually be said to the NPC, and this can affect the flashpoint later on. Every five or so levels you gain access to a new flashpoint (you can access them earlier, and get wasted by enemies if you really like) and these break up the sometimes monotonous task of questing very well.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a stand-alone follow up to Final Fantasy XIII with one key feature being that our choices not only affect the immediate environment but also time and space.
The Soul series of games from Namco started back in the mid-90s as an arcade fighting game, later released for the PlayStation. By the time we saw a sequel SOULEDGE had changed to the now familiar SOULCALIBUR which was considered by many to be a classic, and one of the key Dreamcast titles.
Futuremark is well known in the gaming community, but not for its games. Better known for its benchmarks such as 3D Mark, it's proving itself capable of more than just synthetic tests. Shattered Horizons was its first foray into making games back in 2009. Keeping the space theme but moving back in time, we have at our digital hands, Unstoppable Gorg!
The first key point is that unfortunately the game suffers from its NFL licence. That may sound stupid, how an official licence can make a game worse, but in NFL Blitz case its clear from the first play that this is the case. This is especially true for those who remember the classic arcade games of the 1990s.
The main reason for this is the No Fun League has had its say. One of the key aspects of NFL Blitz was hard hitting action, over the top hits where players landed on their head, cringed in pain and in the most recent iterations of the game, visceral, graphical injuries are present. It is understandable why the NFL does not want its game portrayed in that way, but NFL Blitz 2012 Edition removes much of what makes the game fun. With no late hits, the game doesn't seem that over the top and in general it really feels boring to play.
