"Ultrabook" is a label that can mean just about anything. Asus, however, seems to be cleaving close to Intel's original intent; the Zenbook Prime UX31A looks at first glance to be a slick competitor to Apple's featherweight offering. First impressions can be deceiving, though, so we're taking a closer look to see if this little slice of Zen lives up to its promise.
If like me, you don’t like lugging around a super size 17 inch laptop then today’s review product will be interesting. PC Specialist have created a super small 11.6 inch system and they are aiming to make it one of the most powerful on the market, by incorporating the powerful Intel Core i7 3630QM – a quad core processor with hyperthreading. Yes, 8 logical cores within a tiny 11.6 inch chassis. The system may only cost £650 inc vat, but PC Specialist have managed to include a 128GB Kingston V200 SSD, 8GB of memory and Windows 8.
So what happens when ThinkPad meets UltraBook? Well we get a system like the X1 Carbon from Lenovo with rapid charging, premium carbon fibre construction (with roll cage) and the latest Core CPUs from Intel… and today that is the focus of our review.
After Google’s foray into the consumer hardware space in 2008 with the G1, Android products have improved drastically. In 2012, it made sense to join the tablet scene, and in July, Google introduced the Nexus 7. This followed with the announcement of the 32 GB Nexus 7 in November and, with a price decrease for the 16 GB model to $199, they hit the sweet spot for tablet pricing. Priced the same as the Amazon Kindle Fire HD, and $30 cheaper than the Barnes & Nobel Nook HD in a similar 16 GB configuration, things now to seem no more than a personal preference.
The Intel model is faster, cheaper, and more importantly, it's compatible with all Windows software. The ARM version is limited to the Modern UI applications and Office 2013. It begs the question, is there a good reason for buying a Windows RT tablet?

Negli ultimi anni la vendita di tablet è aumentata in maniera spropositata, questo grazie al miglioramento della tecnologia che incorporano, alla presentazione di contratti di navigazione accessibili da parte dei gestori telefonici e, soprattutto, alla diminuzione vertiginosa dei prezzi. Se siamo intenzionati ad acquistare uno di questi prodotti ci imbatteremo in una miriade di modelli dalle caratteristiche più disparate; schermi touch da 7 pollici piuttosto che 10, hard disk dalle svariate capienze, prezzi che oscillano dai 150€ ad oltre 700€ e, soprattutto, sistemi operativi differenti. Il mercato ormai è dominato da prodotti Apple dotati di iOS, da sistemi dotati di Android, sistema operativo sviluppato dal colosso Google e dai nuovi Windows 8 di Microsoft. Nel mercato dei device ultra-portabili Asus è senza dubbio un marchio di rilievo, meritevole di aver dato vita al fenomeno “netbook” con il suo EEEPC e in continuo aggiornamento per quanto riguarda il suo portfolio prodotti.

Ironically, it's the software that is the weak point of the Microsoft Surface RT, and it feels strange to write that about the world's biggest software company. It may look and feel like Windows 8, the fact that you're limited to only Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote on the desktop, along with the lack of enough (quality) apps in the Windows Store, really works against the Surface RT.
