The new wired illuminating gaming keyboard from ROCCAT has now been released and will soon begin to make it into many home gaming systems across the world. The new edgy , sharp, angular design ROCCAT are now bringing to the table includes one of the most important features gamers are using all the time these days, Macro buttons. Every once in a blue moon I’ll be perusing the interwebs and I’ll see a nifty ad that I’ll actually click on. God forbid that I actually click on an ad with the chance that I might inadvertently install a virus that will eat my computers insides, BUT when that blue moon happens I set all care aside and do it anyways. During one of those very select times I saw an ad for a rather compelling keyboard made by this company that I’ve never heard of: Roccat. After clicking on the ad I was transported to a black and blue world of epic gaming peripherals. After flipping through a couple of the very sexy products it took me about negative 4 seconds to message Bob via Facebook and say, “You need to get products from this company called Roccat”. He replied instantly with something that made me quite happy, “They’re already on their way, a keyboard and mouse.” First on the agenda is the ISKU Illuminated Gaming Keyboard. From what I saw on the website I should be expecting a lot but after reviewing more keyboards and mice than I care to think about I know that I should never judge a book by its cover, even though this book looks cool as funk.
During the past two months i have received quite a few of the latest keyboards to hit the market all of which are quite special and are mostly targeted towards gamers and enthusiasts. A couple of days ago i brought you a review of the latest Mechanical Gaming Keyboard by TteSports called the MEKA G-UNIT which proved to be more than just a good addition to their MEKA line of mechanical keyboards. Today we will be also taking a look at a gaming oriented keyboard, this time however it is manufactured by ROCCAT and although it's not mechanical like the G-UNIT still it sports a good number of features along with a surprisingly good build quality.
Roccat has provided us with some wonderful PC peripherals and today we're going to be looking at the Roccat Isku. The Roccat Isku is an illuminated gaming keyboard, which features as many as 36 programmable macro keys, on the fly profile switching and backlit keys. Backlit with ROCCAT Extreme Ice Blue Lighting in 6 adjustable brightness levels, the Isku makes it easy to always hit the right key -- even in low lighting. The Isku’s optimized illumination also means it’s perfect for avoiding eye strain during those long gaming sessions.
Today we look at the Roccat Isku keyboard, a true dominator in the gaming world, but is it all just a gimmick?

Roccat has shown us here at Benchmark Reviews that it has what it takes to compete successfully in the gaming mouse market. What we are going to find out today is whether they can follow that success with the Roccat ISKU Illuminated Gaming Keyboard. Like the KONE[+] gaming mouse, the ISKU gaming keyboard has EasyShift[+] and when these two devices are paired together they can communicate with each other using the Roccat Talk protocol. There are three EasyShift[+] zones featuring 28 easy-to-reach macro keys, 5 doubly-programmable dedicated M-keys and 3 doubly-programmable Thumbster T-Keys. It is possible to assign different pre-defined functions to the eight media keys and you can also re-assign the F-keys to be used as shortcut or application launch keys. The illuminated keys have five levels of brightness and will auto dim when the keyboard has been idle for a predefined amount of time. That in mind, when buying from a company like this, you should expect not only a really great product to use as a plug and play ready device, but once the software is incorporated, hold on to your hat, as the amount of options contained within may just blow your mind!
Not only do I now get to use my mouse and keyboard together for the EasyShift[+] functionality, I get to write in the dark against because the Isku keyboard we are looking at today is a fully illuminated gaming keyboard. I will say up front that not only was ROCCAT looking outside the box on the way the keyboard functioned, they also took styling to a new geometric realm with the angles and overall shape and design of this keyboard. So, it isn't like they just crammed a bunch of cool tricks onto a usual rectangular keyboard, with the Isku it is something that is going to be a love it or hate it on first sight kind of design
