Roccat are a reasonably new entry to the PC peripheral market. The German company is hoping to take on the likes of Logitech and Creative with its modern styling and aggressive games focused marketing. They produce a range of accessories, one of which we will be looking at today, the Roccat Vire "Mobile Communication Gaming Headset" which is described as being "Arguably the lightest gaming headset in the world".

Despite being a PC gamer since receiving MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries for my parents' ancient Epson back in 1995, I've never really had a keyboard specifically designed as a "gaming" keyboard. They've always been generic office things from Microsoft or Logitech. At a relatively low $24.99, Rosewill targets this well-featured peripheral at the budget-conscious gamer. It features a number of bells and whistles to appeal to a gaming audience. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests the Rosewill Gaming Keyboard RK-8100 (model RIKB-11003).

We've reviewed several great products from Rosewill. This brand is Newegg's own, so you'll find them exclusively at newegg.com. Most technically-savvy people are comfortable ordering from them, not only because of their great deals, but their selection and service. The Rosewill brand products we've reviewed have always been good, so we were eager to look at their new computer keyboard, the Rosewill RK-800G Gaming keyboard.

The RK-800G looks and works much like your typical keyboard, but with a few features that Rosewill has chosen to highlight in order to appeal to gamers. I do like this keyboard, and could see using it comfortably for daily tasks, as well as some gaming where I didn't need some of the features that other, more advanced, gaming keyboards might offer.

What is a gaming keyboard? What specific requirements does a keyboard have before it’s considered in the “gaming” category? There is only one thing. Yeah, a lot of people will tell you different things like, a specific number of anti-ghosting key suppression (roll over), or the fact that it features mechanical key switches, or that the keys themselves light up, but none of these things are correct. Marketing is the only thing that defines a device as a gaming keyboard. Marketing and marketing alone is the only requirement for a regular keyboard to make the jump from standard desktop keyboard to a “gaming” one. In steps the Rosewill RK-8100. Rosewill’s claim to the best bang for buck when it comes to gaming keyboards.

Having used and reviewed quite a few mechanical keyboards in the last year I have now tried out almost every type of Cherry MX switch out there except the Cherry MX Brown and Clear switches. Thankfully, in this during this review of the Rosewill RK-9000BR I was able to knock yet another switch off my list. The Cherry MX Brown switches used on the Rosewill RK-9000BR provide would be customers with the best of both Cherry MX Black, and Blue switches without the negatives of each. Benchmark Reviews will be evaluating the Rosewill RK-9000BR to see how these switches hold up to daily use and what they are like to use for an extended amount of time when compared to their red, black, and blue counterparts.
