You know that expression "this is the Ferrari of keyboards"? Well, it seems that Gigabyte got inspired by it and created a great gaming keyboard that, aside from really behaving like a Ferrari of gaming keyboards, it also features a design clearly derivative of the Italian car maker. The Aivia K8100 comes in black, red and yellow versions and features an emblem on the wrist rest that just looks too much like the ones found on sportst cars. Let's take it for a ride then.

When it comes to gaming, most of the time, the first thing that comes to my mind are consoles like Nintendo 64, Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360... and the list goes on and on. Back in the days, I did not have the opportunity to ever think about computer gaming, as I was always left in the dust with a piece o' crap Pentium II machine (Just for clarification, I currently own two Core i7 based desktops, and a handful of other high performance laptops). And when it does come down to computer gaming, while I own a vast collection of high performance peripherals from well known manufacturers such as Logitech, Razer, and Microsoft, I always thought it was purely my skills that counted -- everything else like computer hardware and peripherals were second in line. While the companies as aforementioned are probably the first and only ones to come to mind for many consumers and enthusiasts alike, our Editor-in-Chief Jonathan recently asked me if I would like to review the Gigabyte Aivia K8100 gaming keyboard. Yes, that's from the same company that makes motherboards and video cards. All of a sudden, my world of gaming peripherals just stood in awe. The first and only thing that came to mind when I looked at the photos on the product page was, "It looks like a Lamborghini!" Pulling it out of the box when it arrived a week later, I had to take a moment to admire such a keyboard, the likes of which I had never owned before. Has Gigabyte pulled a bunny out of the hat to surprise us all? Or is this keyboard like any other so-called 'gaming keyboard' on the market that the big boys in the market have nothing to worry about? Read on to find out!

GIGABYTE is making waves in a whole lot of computer component segments. Mostly known for their motherboards and video cards, the company has been branching out into a ton of new sectors lately. Today we have Gigabyte's latest gaming keyboard on our desk. This is no ordinary board though because as well as looking at the features gamers want, the design department has been let loose again to create a shell which certainly stands out from the norm. Join us as we take a look at the Aivia K8100.

After the streamlining of the USB interface, manufacturers started to take advantage of the latest interface and started to add extras on the boards as standard that had never really been seen before. This would be to include media and volume controls and then as technology also took leaps forward, the introduction of LCD screens, macro keys, touch controls and backlights.

Gigabyte may be a name known to some due to their motherboards, but it seems the company has recently decided to venture into the over saturated peripheral market with the release of the Gigabyte Aivia K8100 keyboard. This keyboard - similar to their recent motherboards - is aimed at the enthusiast computer crowd. With features such as 20-key simultaneous anti-ghosting as well as up to 100 programmable, on-board macros, this keyboard is clearly for the hardest of hardcore gamers. Within this review, Benchmark Reviews tests the Gigabyte Aivia K8100 gaming keyboard.
