Until now, Razer haven’t had any mechanical keyboards in their lineup, however, with the release of the affordable Black Widow and Black Widow Ultimate, they are clearly trying to bring this technology to the mass market. When we received the BlackWidow Ultimate with its individually backlit mechanical keys recently we were keen to see whether it would live up to the high standards Razer usually achieve. Read on to find out what we thought of their new high end gaming board.
It really seems that no matter how many PC gaming peripherals we get to test in these pages there are always more around and with Christmas just around the corner we don't have that much left time to publish each and every single one of those reviews, at least not prior to entering 2013. The good thing however when testing gaming peripherals is that you can actually test more than just one at a time (for example a keyboard, a mouse, a mouse pad and a headset) and so with the recent release of several game titles such as Far Cry 3, Assassins Creed 3, Planetside 2 and Hitman absolution we had just the right material/tools with which to perform all our tests. So today we will be taking a rather thorough look on the BlackWidow Ultimate Mechanical Gaming Keyboard by Razer.
The BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth Edition keyboard from RAZER comes with the silent Cherry MX Brown switches, has a matte finish, and all key functions can be reassigned (an exception would be the "Fn" key); also, the keyboard features an anti-ghosting ability, so up to 6 key presses can be registered at once. The keys are backlit individually, with 5 available levels of lighting, that can be set without the need of installing extra software.
For consumers who prefer a more understated mechanical keyboard design than the shiny finish or clicky keys of the original BlackWidow Razer now offer the Stealth Edition. With its matte soft touch coating and low noise buttons this version of the Ultimate should open up the product to a wider market.

There is one significant headset which we haven't yet tested... and should have long before now. That product is Razer's Carcharias which is still their high end gaming product and today we have one plugged into our test system to see how it performs in an ever evolving marketplace.
