The R.A.T.M. mouse from Mad Catz is a fresh iteration of the previously released versions but with a more portable, compact revision. The use of Bluetooth 4.0 LE allows a battery life of about an year and for customizing the product we get software for both Windows and Mac OSX platforms.

So far 4 great things have happened this month, first Ubisoft Montreal released Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon (retro FPS that no one saw coming), SOE gave 1 free premium month to all of their PlanetSide 2 players (both Free and Premium members), Metro Last Light by Deep Silver/4A Games finally made it to retail (after several unfortunate incidents that led to the dismantle of THQ and sale of their assets to several game developers/publishers) and finally Mad Catz launched both their M.O.U.S.9 and R.A.T.M Bluetooth wireless mice. Now as most of you are aware we did test the M.O.U.S.9 a few days ago which in the end left us with mixed impressions especially because of its rather low DPI and somewhat high price tag so although my quest for the perfect notebook wireless mouse continues it's very possible that the R.A.T.M wireless mobile gaming mouse which we have here with us will be the one to rule them all.

Mad Catz has always taken wild swings at design and innovation. Their latest introduction, the Mad Catz STRIKE 7 gaming keyboard, is among the most luxurious and expensive keyboards on the market. With 7 detachable and modular pieces, 1 TFT-LCD touch screen, 12 programmable macro keys, 12 touch screen macros, and 3 instant toggle profiles, the raw capability of this keyboard can put any keyboard to shame. Benchmark Reviews will take apart the STRIKE 7 and see if it really is the king of the crop.
Peripherals
Lately whenever i hear people talking about gaming peripherals mechanical keyboards seem to always steal the show and that's somewhat justifiable in a way since they do offer impressive MTBF times and tactile feedback compared to regular membrane keyboards. Of course not all is black and white in the market and so we've seen quite a few membrane keyboards during these past 2 years that share equally good MTBF times and offer a good amount of feedback as well like the S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 and S.T.R.I.K.E. 5 by Mad Catz and the APEX and APEX [RAW] by SteelSeries all of which we have reviewed in the past. Well it seems that Mad Catz is not ready to halt their S.T.R.I.K.E line of gaming keyboards and so just recently they announced the S.T.R.I.K.E. 3 gaming keyboard which is basically a cut-down version of its more expensive brothers featuring just basic functionality without sacrificing key precision and MTBF.

Gaming on a budget but still willing to purchase one well-built gaming keyboard from a respected manufacturer? Then the S.T.R.I.K.E. 3 may be for you since it retains some of the important features of the more expensive variants and can be bought in 3 color variants: black, white and red, in order to match the other peripherals.
Peripherals
So what happens if you take away the screen and modular capabilities of the S.T.R.I.K.E 7? You end up with the S.T.R.I.K.E 3. Today that's what we have on our test bench, let's find out if it manages to retain enough of the qualities from the higher end model to succeed.

Technologically speaking the Computer Keyboard has gone a long way since its inception back in the early 1970s but no matter how one sees it its design has remained virtually the same ever since. Microsoft was the one to start the keyboard design "evolution" with their natural/ergonomic keyboard lines back in the 90s but it wasn't really up until roughly a decade ago that we witnessed the gaming peripherals revolution which really changed the way we see keyboards. Even so although gaming keyboards featured several aesthetic and performance additions which aimed to improve efficiency/speed while gaming the design remained pretty much the same. Mad Catz is perhaps the only manufacturer that really pushed the envelope when they released their truly unique S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 adjustable gaming keyboard several months ago but unfortunately although impressive both in terms of quality and features its price tag was set higher than what most people can afford. Well Mad Catz thought of that as well when developing the S.T.R.I.K.E. keyboard line and so today with us we have it's less expensive but equally impressive brother the S.T.R.I.K.E. 5 adjustable gaming keyboard.

Mad Catz released their new STRIKE 7 keyboard two months back, representing the high end model of their new cyborg series keyboards. Like the Cyborg RAT-9/7/5/3 mice, the STRIKE 5 is now released. It's more affordable, and just as promising. Equipped with the same keyboard and customization setup, the STRIKE 5 is equipped with the same power with the only difference being the auxiliary panel. Instead of the VENOM touchscreen which came with 12 apps, the STRIKE 5 comes with a simplified OLED EYE display. For those looking for a cheaper alternative to the STRIKE 7, Benchmark Reviews will analyze the STRIKE 5 to see if it holds up.

Today we will be taking Mad Catz new gaming keyboard, the S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 through its paces. The S.T.R.I.K.E. 7, like previous products from Mad Catz, such as the R.A.T. mice is a heavily customisable product that incorporates a touch screen display along with the more standard QWERTY keyboard we would expect.
Peripherals
For the past 5 years or so we've literally witnessed a rain of gaming peripherals designed and manufactured by a large number of companies around the world, some well-known ones and some well not so much. Regardless however no matter how many gaming peripherals we get to test most of them seem quite similar in both design and features while only a handful really steal the show each year (and that's not even certain) either because of their innovative nature or due to their second to none performance. Now as many of you know purely gaming oriented keyboards are perhaps what we see least when it comes to gaming related peripherals (mice and headsets are obviously more in number) and although many manufacturers keep releasing extremely durable mechanical keyboards their lack of features robs them from that classification. Of course currently in the market there are quite a few "pure" gaming oriented keyboards by manufacturers such as Razer and Logitech but as with all things there's always something above everything else and the latest S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 gaming keyboard by Mad Catz aims for the throne.
