Today we’re looking at NZXT’s latest power supply range; the HALE82N series. This series is aimed at PC builders who demand quality components, whilst sticking to a budget. It’s 80PLUS Bronze certified, non-modular, and has a standard ATX form factor that will accommodate cases where free space is at a premium. Whilst many manufacturers are attempting to diversify their product ranges, in order for people to actually purchase these new lines the product needs to be of a certain quality. Does the NZXT HALE82N series hit the mark or fall short? Only one way to know; read on to find out!
Okay, here we go: Last in-house article of the year. Just when you thought you just got used to writing '2010', it is time to update our brain calendar and practice writing '2011' starting... well, tomorrow. For those who were dreaming of a white Christmas and didn't get any (Which is really not the case for me, because we get that a little too often here in Canada -- of course, other than the igloos we live in, and polar bears we ride on a daily basis), in yours truly's personal opinion, the next best thing is a white power supply. Yeah yeah, call out for a lame introduction. But the point is, NZXT's HALE90 is really one of a kind. When I loaded up the company's website a short while ago, the moment I saw the NZXT HALE90's photo on their front page, I knew I just had to get my hands on this for my next main computer refresh. Since 2006, I have used a variety of Seasonic power supplies exclusively for my primary system, mainly because of their excellent performance, impeccable reliability, near silent operation, and top notch efficiency. And all four attributes are just as important as the next. This is where the NZXT HALE90 comes into the picture. Other than receiving excellent reviews from reputable websites that demonstrates this product's high load performance, 80 Plus Gold certification, large 140mm fan (Without actually using it, my best guess is that it would be acoustically silent, in which we will cover later in this report), the company adds one more thing to push everyone else aside: Looks. Unlike traditional matte black power supply units, this one has a sleek white painted exterior. But what makes NZXT's HALE90 so great beyond the surface? We cracked open a 750W example open to take a look at the hardware under the hood.
NZXT are better known for their chassis design but they have also been expanding their power supply range, targeting a broad and demanding enthusiast audience in the process. Today we are reviewing our first power supply from the company, the 750W model from their newest HALE90 series.
NZXT is primarily a case manufacturer, although they have released some power supplies in the past, namely their Performance Power and Precise series. Here at OCIA.net we've looked a few of these models over the years and found them to be very stable and of decent quality, particularly considering their relatively low price. However even as recently as just two years ago, they failed to meet basic 80Plus standards, topping out around 78% efficiency. Now NZXT looks to change all that by releasing a new line of power supplies, the HALE90 Gold series.
NZXT is one of the better known case manufacturers, known for their unique aesthetic design and great looking cases. However, recently NZXT has been moving into the enthusiast end of the market- most notably with their new Phantom cases and high-end PSUs.
NZXT was created in 2004 as a company that built products for gamers and enthusiasts. They are most known for their quality cases and power supplies and always strive to put the customer and their needs above all. They are based in the USA where all of their engineering and design is done while they have production done overseas in China and Taiwan.

Long overdue, NZXT refreshes its HALE90 power supply series to V2, and brings with it some very nice changes, but at a hefty cost.
The NZXT Hale90 V2 1000W PSU is built on their proven rock solid platform, honed and refined to meet the needs of even the most demanding users. The NZXT Hale90 V2 steps up in two areas that are becoming more and more of a concern for modern users; a fully modular interface and improved power and stability on the 5vsb for USB charging of portable devices. The fully modular interface retains the good looking and easy to route flat cables that NZXT has been using on their high end PSUs for all connections, excepting the black sleeved round 20+4 MB connector. The black backplate incorporates into the Hale90 V2’s monochromatic design, and uses easy to identify labeling for all connectors. Connectors do abound, with six 6+2 PCIe, two 4+4 pin CPU, twelve SATA and fourteen 4-Pin peripheral connectors available. Of course, connectors make no difference without solid power and the NZXT Hale90 V2 1000W offers up a single 12V rail capable of 83A and 996W to satisfy even the most power hungry systems. Solid Japanese capacitors are used for increased reliability and durability throughout. Input voltage is automatically sensed, and the Hale90 V2 can operate in the range of 90-264V. Six way protection circuitry keeps the Hale90 V2 safe from almost any conceivable situation, while NZXT backs the Hale90 V2 1000W with a 5-Year Warranty.
Most people know NZXT and their Gamer Cases. But in this review we will look at
something else from NZXT. Namely the NZXT HALE90 V2 1200 Watt PSU with a white finish
and modular cables.
