What is the first thing that comes to mind when I mention the words 'cake' and 'cheese'? Cheese that is melted on top of a cake? A cake made out of cheese? Or should I simply refer to it as a cheesecake? Recently, I have been reading Preston's Toughpower Grand 750W report, and thought to myself: What better way is there to start the Thermaltake Toughpower Grand 1200W review, than to plagiarize a few lines from the my colleague's article introduction earlier in March this year? Now obviously plagiarism and cheesecakes have nothing to do with a power supply we are reviewing today -- but before you click the little 'X' next to your browser's tab, let me ask you this question first before moving on further in this review: Would you buy an ugly looking cheesecake to munch down on, or an ugly plagiarized cake (Oh yes, cakes can be plagiarized) for that special someone? Probably not, and I believe nine out of ten people would agree also. In the world of computers, PC enthusiasts will go pretty far in obtaining hardware to make their system look pretty, and I have to admit that I am one of them. Not too long ago, I was checking my email, and it so happens Thermaltake dropped by with a note asking if I wanted to check out the Toughpower Grand 1200W. At first glance, it still has a simple, yet unique strip of red on a dark matte body with rounded corners; this no different than any other models in this product line. Knowing how awesome the 750W is with regards to its top notch build quality and simply class leading performance, without further thought, I told myself this is really the one to get if I desired awesomeness. But what and how much has changed under the hood in this kilowatt-plus monster? Keep reading to see what we have found!

Exactly three months ago, we have introduced you to the funny named FSP AURUM Gold 600W power supply. To understand what is so funny about the name of this power supply, it requires a little bit of cross-cultural background knowledge. In the same way it is redundant to go out and call someone a 'fat American' or 'drunk *ahem*' (Let's not go there, because I will get sued), one thing we should all understand before starting this review this morning, is 'Aurum' means nothing other 'Gold' in Latin. So why would FSP make up a name that literally means 'Gold Gold'? While only FSP's marketing department can answer that particular question, a more important one actually remained at the back of my head since April. To put it in terms we can all understand, let's just say if Pete Seeger is interested in computer power supplies -- and forgive us if he is -- the question we should be hearing about the FSP AURUM Gold series is, "Where have all the modular cables gone?" Well, rejoice geeky Pete Seeger and friends: Because FSP have learned, and not long after the release of the original FSP AURUM Gold series of power supplies, along came the modular version of it. Aptly as the FSP AURUM CM Gold series, is the 'cable management' series of FSP's excellent flagship line of PSUs still the right product to buy? Once again, we disassembled one here at APH Networks, and took a look at what's under the hood.

The Coolmax V-500 costs only USD 22 at Newegg.com and, therefore, we were very skeptical that it could deliver its labeled wattage, 500 W. Wattage, as we always explain, isn't everything. Let's see the other downsides of using a cheap power supply.

Corsair recently refreshed their TX series of power supplies. We took a look at both the 750W and 850W versions and found that they were both good units. Our main complaints with the two units were connector availability as the connector selection was a tad outdated. It would seem that we weren't the only ones to notice this and Corsiar has introduced a few new models into the TX series.

The meaning of words change over time, and so does the value of things. For example, let's take a look at the word "apologize". According to Merriam-Webster, the definition we usually go by is "an admission of error or discourtesy accompanied by an expression of regret". However, if you lived a few hundred years ago, the same word probably meant "the defense especially of one's opinions, position, or actions" instead. Now with regards to the value of things, did you know that aluminum was worth more than gold before the Hall-Héroult process was invented? In fact, it was reported that Napoleon III of France gave a banquet where only the most honored guests got aluminum utensils -- the rest had to do away with, well, 'inferior' metals like gold. So how does this relate to our topic today? When we mention the word "hybrid", the first thing that comes to your mind is probably a Toyota Prius. Now I don't know about you, but when I was younger, when we mention the word 'hybrid', it really means a combination of the best of both worlds -- not a car that robs you of your passion for driving in the name of saving gas. In the same way, would you rather have gold, or a hybrid? With the former still in excess of $1700 per ounce at the time of press, choosing gold probably makes a lot more sense. However, it does not take much to change one definition. In the past, we have reviewed both the Cooler Master Silent Pro M 1000W and Silent Pro Gold 1000W. With the top-of-the-heap Silent Pro Hybrid 1050W in our labs today, is it the product that takes back the definition and value implied by the word 'hybrid'? Read on to find out!

When it comes to PSUs Thortech may not be a brand which comes to mind immediately. In fact to many people they may not come across as a company competing in the high end of the PSU arena but with the release of their 1000w Thunderbolt Plus Thortech are aiming to do exactly that.
