You may not have heard of Silver Power before, but when they approached us with a fanless power supply for review, we were intrigued. Not only that, but it is a modular design with 80 Plus Certification. Today we find out if it is a good first choice for a new media center build.

Cooler Master's GX II 550 Watt power supply is an 80 Plus Bronze rated PSU. The GX II 550 has been designed to support the power saving features of Intel's Haswell CPUs and will provide USB power to charge mobile devices while the computer's off. Feeding power to the components, there's the standard 24-pin connector to the motherboard, a 4+4-pin 12V supply for the CPU, a pair of 6+2 pin PCI-e connectors, two cables with three SATA power connectors each, and one cable with three 4-pin Molex connectors and a floppy drive power connector.

Die Pure-Power-L8-Serie verspricht 80Plus-Bronze-Effizienz und ein leises Betriebsgeräusch. Nach dem 630-Watt-Modell testen wir die Variante mit 430 Watt für gut 50 Euro.

OCZ has done a refresh of their Fatal1ty power supply series, but it may not have been for the better. Let's take a close look at the new PSU now.

We have had mixed experiences with Thermaltake power supplies in the past. A few of them have delivered excellent results while others have left us disappointed. Today we are looking at the Smart M 750W power supply, a modular unit with 80 Plus Bronze Certification. Thermaltake claim the design can deliver 750W continuously at 40c, and they have opted to use high grade Japanese capacitors throughout for enhanced reliability.

At first glance to most people power supply units may not seem to have advanced much compared to the ones we used to check almost a decade ago but in reality most of their interior components have, some just a bit and some quite a lot. Regardless of that however the same "principles" that applied even 10 years ago apply today (perhaps even more so due to the cost of multi-GPU setups) and so we always recommend using good quality power supply units to avoid any unpleasant issues for your hardware and of course to provide optimal stability (especially for overclocked systems). Now as many of you are well aware the safest and fastest way for consumers to "rate" a power supply unit is to check its 80 Plus efficiency certification and although the top of the line Titanium models offer the highest possible electricity savings currently and thus make use of the highest quality components they don't land far from the Platinum and Gold ones. The ToughPower DPS G 1050W model is one such 80 Plus Gold certified PSU and we have it with us today to see how it ranks in the market.

Today Tech-Reviews.co.uk added another power supply to their PSU roundup, the In Win Commander 850. This 850W power supply offers a fully modular design and a camouflage theme. Is this unit set to kill though like its design suggests? Read the review and find out!

Within the PSU market, Antec would seem to be one of the most willing to push the boundaries and raise standards; and perhaps the ultimate move came in the form of the company’s very own form factor – CPX.
Bearing in mind Antec’s very impressive ATX form factor power supplies (Signature and TruePower series perhaps the most recognised throughout the computing community), it may seem a strange concept to move away from the traditional ATX power supply. The technology behind the idea though makes perfect sense...
The larger casing and externally mounted fan allow for a more spacious interior combined with a larger fan to provide greater airflow at lower speeds.
The unit we’re focusing on in this review is the CP-1000 – the second member of the CPX series following on from the flagship CP-850 and now we’ve unearthed the thinking behind CPX, let’s take a closer look..

Today we are having our first contact with the products of an European manufacturer, Be Quiet!, a company with a strong presence in Europe but not very well known in the USA and Canada; yet. The German company informed us that they are planning to invade the US markets in early 2013 and sent us the Dark Power Pro 10 650 Watt PSU to try out! Read on to see how it performs!
