PC Power & Cooling are today launching the Silencer MK3 series in wattages ranging from 400-600w. We have the 600w model on our test bench so let's find out if the latest Silencer model finds that nice balance of price, quality and performance.
Power Supply
The PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk III is a very good power supply. Ironically, the main point of criticism we have for the Silencer is that it's not that silent. PC Power & Cooling wins in two areas: looks and price. The white housing and modular cables with XLR-like screw connectors are unique qualities of this PSU. And while the pricetag of £229 isn't cheap, it's still 10 percent more affordable than the competition.

PC Power & Cooling's Silencer MK III series has been missing something for power users. Find out how well the new 850W model fills the void.

Today we are looking at the brand new PC Power & Cooling Silencer MK III 750W power supply. The latest model is an 80 Plus Gold Certified modular design with a single +12V rail. It also features a new Dual Thermal Control System which enables the unit to switch between normal and silent modes. Parent company OCZ are offering a class leading 7 year warranty with these units, for extended peace of mind. How does it rate?
Power Supply
The PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk III 750W made a very good impression. It's semi-passive, up until 500 watts the fan doesn't turn on. It's very efficient, like you expect from an 80 Plus Gold model. The ripple is a little higher than average, but nothing to be worried about. The voltages remain within the 5 percent margins even at max capacity. The white PSU has a very nice finish as well, with screw-in connectors.

The original release of the Silencer MK III series came last year, but more recently PC Power & Cooling has done another round of revisions on this series which introduced some notable upgrades. Energy efficiency was taken from an 80PLUS Bronze certification right up to 80PLUS Gold, fan size was increased to a 140mm fan which should offer better efficiency and lower noise, the modular cable design was given a screw-on steel design, and among some other smaller changes, the warranty was increased to seven years.

The PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk III power supply series has models ranging from 400 W to 1,200 W. Lets test the 750 W model, which comes with the 80 Plus Gold certification.

Stealth and sneak is the way to be, as a sniper sits behind a nearby tree. Oh the many things he may yet to see, but only one target is the key. Seasons come and seasons go, but the time came when the ground is covered with snow. PC Power & Cooling drops by to say 'hello', only to say that the target is blended in with the snow below. A white power supply is what we see, but a Silencer Mk III 600W is its true identity. Before you slowly move towards the little 'X' at the corner of your browser, let me inform you that this power supply we have here at our APH labs is truly unique. Nowadays, more and more people are leaning towards such products, and I am no exception. Sometimes, such unique products come with a high price tag, as some people possess the idea of "unique means special, and if I want it, I am willing to pay more." I don't know about you, but when it comes down to such products I want, there is always a tight budget; especially money is usually not in your favor. Being the computer enthusiast that I am, having only a couple computers in the house for my personal use doesn't seem to cut it. This eventually leads to spending more and more money on secondary computers in different locations of the house for the sole purpose of "conveniently" accessing the internet or files on my network. Whether you have a mindset like me, or if you simply have a limited budget for a decent enough computer, PC Power & Cooling's Silencer Mk III is a good place to start for mid-range power supplies. With most power supplies possessing the usual dark colors, the Silencer Mk III comes in a unique white body. But does its outer look live up to market niche expectations? Read on to find out!
Power Supply
Most of our readers are very familiar with PC Power & Cooling, so we will skip right to the chase with their latest product. PC Power & Cooling has yet again revamped the Silencer series of power supplies that has become almost infamous for their performance, reliability and low cost.
One of the first things that you will notice is that this unit only has a single 46A 12V rail. It is becoming rare to find a power supply that isn't capable for outputting 99% or more of its power on the 12V rail, but here we have one. What it lacks in 12V output, it makes up for on the minor rails. Both the 3.3V and 12V rails are capable of 24A each with a combined maximum output of 130W. This is more juice on the minor rails than even the recently reviewed XFX ProSeries 1000W PSU. Total combined continuous output is 600W.
