Silent Pro M is a power supply series from Cooler Master featuring a modular cabling system and a single +12 V rail, at this moment featuring 500 W, 600 W, 700 W, 850 W and 1,000 W. The first three models have only the standard 80 Plus certification, while the 850 W and 1,000 W model have the 80 Plus Bronze certification, showing that they are based on a different design. Let's see if the 600 W model (a.k.a. RS-600-AMBA-D3) is a good buy.
It has been three quick summer months since our last PSU report, which happened to be on the Thermaltake Litepower 450W article written by yours truly back in June. The Thermaltake Litepower 450W that I've looked at is a budget oriented power supply. Although Thermaltake classified it as being 'green' and 'efficient', the price to performance ratio was a bit lacking; especially considering its $90 price tag.
Today we are looking at a power supply from Cooler Master called the ‘Silent Pro Hybrid’. This is based around the Silent Pro Gold Model, but it features a high grade cooling fan with hydraulic bearings … this stops rotating completely when the loads are below 200W. Cooler Master have a 1300W, a 1050W and an 850W in the range and we are looking at the smallest, most affordable supply in the series.
We take our first look at a Cooler Master PSU in almost two years and find out just what we've been missing out on.
The meaning of words change over time, and so does the value of things. For example, let's take a look at the word "apologize". According to Merriam-Webster, the definition we usually go by is "an admission of error or discourtesy accompanied by an expression of regret". Now I don't know about you, but when I was younger, when we mention the word 'hybrid', it really means a combination of the best of both worlds -- not a car that robs you of your passion for driving in the name of saving gas. In the same way, would you rather have gold, or a hybrid? With the former still in excess of $1700 per ounce at the time of press, choosing gold probably makes a lot more sense. However, it does not take much to change one definition. In the past, we have reviewed both the Cooler Master Silent Pro M 1000W and Silent Pro Gold 1000W. With the top-of-the-heap Silent Pro Hybrid 1050W in our labs today, is it the product that takes back the definition and value implied by the word 'hybrid'? Read on to find out!
