Like most companies Thermaltake has an entire range of power supplies from the high-end to something for people looking to save some money. Not everyone has the money to throw at a top of the line power supply and Thermaltake knows this. Today we are taking a look at one of their more mainstream power supplies in the Smart SP-750P 750W Power Supply. This unit lacks some of the high-end features like modular cables and Over Temperature Protection, but you do get things like an 80PLUS Bronze certification, flat low profile cables, a single 12V rail design and of course a much lower price tag. Let’s take the Smart 750W through the paces and see how it works out.

Cougar aren't exactly the first brand name you think of when we mention power supplies. Cougar have made a name for themselves with some uniquely styled cases and fans at affordable price points but their involvement in the power supply market is certainly something relatively new. Cougar's Power X 550W power supply that we have with us today is one of these brand new power supplies from Cougar. Like a lot of companies selling power supplies Cougar are not actively involved in producing these power supplies as they are produced by HEC/Compucase. That said Cougar are one of the few brands that I know of who actually bring HEC/Compucase OEM power supplies to market (most use Seasonic, FSP, etc) so I am very interested to have a look at this power supply, so without any further ado let us do exactly that!

Be Quiet's reputation as a premium brand has gone from strength to strength in the PC hardware industry. Be Quiet perhaps became famous for their Dark Rock series of CPU coolers but alongside those they have had huge successes with their Shadow Rock CPU coolers, Silent Wings fans and their power supplies. Be Quiet have an extensive range of power supplies that span all different market segments starting with Dark Power Pro, then Straight Power, then Pure Power, then SFX Power, then TFX Power and then System Power. These roughly follow in order of "how good" they are with Dark Power Pro being the most premium series and System Power being the most basic.
Today we are looking at Be Quiet's "third tier" of power supplies as we examine the Pure Power L8 CM 730W semi modular power supply from Be Quiet. This power supply some all the premium features we'd expect to see from Be Quiet but at a more affordable price point compared to the higher tier power supplies by sacrificing a higher 80 Plus Gold/Platinum Efficiency standard for the Bronze standard. Despite that the particular unit that we have today is more than capable of powering a whole variety of enthusiast class systems with 1-3 GPUs and even heavy power consuming platforms like Intel's High End Desktop X79 platform.

In my relatively short-lived career as a hardware reviewer I have come across a lot of brand names making (or sometimes rebadging) a lot of different products at numerous price points and market segments. Yet Thortech are a brand that I personally haven't come across before, except briefly in one video which I saw on YouTube that absolutely tore into one of their PSUs - rightly or wrongly is not something I am prepared to comment on as I don't know all the ins and outs. Thortech are actually a division of the brand "GeIL" or Golden Emperor International Limited best known for making RAM modules. They have been in the business of making consumer power supplies for only a short while, just over 2 years as far as I know, and in that time they haven't really managed to gain much traction in the consumer market place. Despite that GeIL has been making industrial power supplies for around 15 years so is certainly no stranger to the world of power supplies - which gives us great hope for the quality of their products. Today we are looking at one of Thortech's largest wattage power supplies - the Thunderbolt 1200W.
If we just sit back and consider this product's credentials then it actually has a lot going for it. Firstly, it provides a large amount of power (1200W) at a very high efficiency level (80 Plus Gold). Secondly, it does this in a relatively compact form factor for a PSU of its wattage, looking more like the size we'd expect to see a 650-850W PSU in. Thirdly it offers up a semi modular design and is reasonably attractive - especially if you like hints of yellow. It is worth noting that this power supplies, while still current and sold, is actually kind-of dated. In fact we received this review sample well over 18 months ago, sadly right before our PSU load tester blew up. Now we are up and running again with PSU reviews we are finally able to test it so without any further ado let us proceed with this review to see if the Thortech Thunderbolt 1200W PSU is any good or not.

The Cooler Master Game Xtreme II is the 2nd generation of the extremely popular Game Xtreme PSU series. The new GXII PSUs have been tweaked and come with a quiet HDB fan & nonstop USB power. The nonstop USB power lead enables power to the USB ports, even when the system is turned off. The 550W model is affordable, 80 Plus certified, has a single +12V rail & comes with a 5 year warranty. I suspect this series of PSUs will be as sought after as the 1st.

Corsair recently introduced its new RM series to succeed the TX line of power supplies. The focus is on silence, according to Corsair, but they should also perform well in other areas and carry an appealing price tag. We tested the 750W model to find out whether the new series lives up to those claims.

Procediamo all’analisi, buona lettura !
