Famous PSU manufacturer Seasonic released fully modular 860 and 1000 Watt power supply in their Platinum series. both 80PLUS® Platinum Certified. Madshrimps received the 1000w version and will put this PSU, in this review, through its paces, testing it under normal home situations. Seasonic also warrants this PSU for a full 7 years, pretty impressive in my book. In an upcoming review, we will head off to the Cooler Master Lab for a more detailed high end PSU's roundup. We take a look at Seasonic's highest wattage Platinum rated power supply and get some surprising results.
Seasonic are one of the most famous and highly regarded power supply manufacturers. They create many high grade units for other companies, allowing them to rebadge their designs. Today we are reviewing one of their most powerful products under the ‘Seasonic’ brand, the Platinum 1000W.
Tell you what -- first review of the year, and we got something good in our hands. Late last year, there were some particularly unique power supplies released into the market; such as the Seasonic Platinum and Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybrid. Obviously, as you can tell by my hyperlink, the latter was already covered by yours truly back in November 2011. What is unique about these power supplies boils down to the fact that both PSU's internal cooling fan can be shut off completely under relatively light loads. As a quiet PC enthusiast, this is like a gift from God himself -- fusing together a compromise-free solution by combining both power and silence into one single package. Unfortunately, it seems Satan had a hand in the Silent Pro Hybrid, because there is one problem with it: The fan control system goes bazerk sometimes. That's too bad. So what we have here at APH Networks this morning is yet another product of similar ideas, but claims to have superior execution. Firstly, the Seasonic Platinum, as its name suggests, is 80 Plus Platinum certified. Secondly, the fan can remain off until 30% load is reached, which translates to 300W for our 1000W unit. Considering how most PCs don't suck down 300W even under moderate loads, this is a very impressive and crucial figure. Therefore, without further delay, is the Seasonic Platinum 1000W a power supply from Heaven, pure and unadulterated? Read on to find out!
