2014 has been an incredible year for top grade, high wattage power supplies. We have reviewed the Super Flower Leadex Platinum 1,000w, The Antec High Current Pro Platinum 1,300w and the Corsair AX1500i Titanium – all of which have claimed top awards. Today we look at the latest Cooler Master V1200 Platinum, a fully modular power supply created in partnership with top OEM Seasonic.

Many people that i know often wonder the reason as to why most manufacturers are producing fully modular power supply units lately when its granted that people will be using the 20/24pin power cable either way. Well since this is considered one of the main/top features of such PSU models usually the reason stands out in both the manufacturers websites and the packages so we all know that they main reason they choose to do so is as a "failsafe" (future proof) just in case the power standard changes in the near future from the current 24pin one to something newer and better so instead of getting a new PSU and thus spending twice as much in the long run consumers will just be required to get a new power cable. A few months back with us we had the latest EDGE 550W fully modular PSU by Antec and since we were very satisfied with its performance we just had to take a look at the top of the line 750W model.

The big 12v rails do come at a cost though, the 3.3v and 5v rails are quite a bit lower than those on the power supply it replaced (12 amps and 6 amps lower respectively to be precise) but then comparing it to its competition of a similar rating its right on a par on the power rating of the 3.3v and 5v rails.

To start off, we must say that we were really disappointed with the name chosen by Arctic Cooling for this product. 550RF leads you to believe that this is a 550 W product, when in fact it is a 500 W power supply. The 550 W on the name is the peak power, which according to the manufacturer can be sustained for only ONE SECOND. This kind of gimmick is typically used by low-end manufacturers and we wouldn't expect this from a Swiss-based company. But besides that, is Fusion 550RF a good product? Let's see.

Today we will have a look at their latest and most powerful Silencer series unit, boasting a continuous output of 910W at 50°C. PC Power & Cooling markets the Silencer 910W as a mainstream product and sells it at a highly competitive price. We are going to thoroughly test the unit and see if it can also take on the competition in terms of performance.
