When OCZ bought PC Power & Cooling, the company said that PC Power & Cooling power supplies wouldn't have modular cabling systems. Well, scratch that. The latest release from the brand, the Silencer Mk III, features a modular cabling system and carries the 80 Plus Bronze certification, coming in 400 W, 500 W, and 600 W versions. Let's test the 600 W version and see if it is a good choice.
PC Power & Cooling have earned one of the most respected reputations in the power supply sector for releasing a steady stream of quality designs throughout the last decade. In 2007, OCZ Technologies acquired the company, taking them into the fold and subsequently enhancing their own portfolio. Today we are looking at the latest 600W in the Silencer III Range, one of three models (with 400W and 500W) available.

One of the first things that you will notice is that this unit only has a single 46A 12V rail. What it lacks in 12V output, it makes up for on the minor rails. Both the 3.3V and 12V rails are capable of 24A each with a combined maximum output of 130W. This is more juice on the minor rails than even the recently reviewed XFX ProSeries 1000W PSU. Total combined continuous output is 600W.

The original release of the Silencer MK III series came last year, but more recently PC Power & Cooling has done another round of revisions on this series which introduced some notable upgrades. Energy efficiency was taken from an 80PLUS Bronze certification right up to 80PLUS Gold, fan size was increased to a 140mm fan which should offer better efficiency and lower noise, the modular cable design was given a screw-on steel design, and among some other smaller changes, the warranty was increased to seven years.
Power Supply
The PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk III 750W made a very good impression. It's semi-passive, up until 500 watts the fan doesn't turn on. It's very efficient, like you expect from an 80 Plus Gold model. The ripple is a little higher than average, but nothing to be worried about. The voltages remain within the 5 percent margins even at max capacity. The white PSU has a very nice finish as well, with screw-in connectors.
