It's been ages since we've tested 4-Way CrossFireX actually. Recently we did a bit of 3-Way CrossFireX action with the introduction of the Bulldozer and Sandy Bridge-E platform, but apart from that there hasn't been any real reason lately to expand from those numbers; that along with the fact that most boards support only up to three cards.

For once Intel didn't drop a bomb on the desktop market with the refresh of the Haswell socket 1150 processor generation. The high end processor aka Devils Canyon, which should create some commotion will only be released beginning of June, till then we have to sit it out and wait. One usually has to sacrifice a bit of the quiet operation factor in order to achieve the desired power level needed to do an adequate cooling job. If you need to avoid the noise level, then you may need to sacrifice some air flow to get the decibels down to acceptable levels. A number of case fans have hit the market in recent years claiming voluminous air flow and whisper-quiet operation; or marketing variations of this theme. The examples that can truly make this claim are few and far between.
