There are two angles to comment the performance of the Celeron from. On the one hand, we can see it's not that bad. It's the level of dual-core Athlon X2, not the lowest-end at that. However, from the other point of view, you can get much more in the low-end segment for a similar price.

Smaller transistors, more cores, faster cores and significantly improved graphics all add up to make the Atom Z3000 a very powerful and energy-efficient processor for tablets. With Clover Trail Intel already equalled the performance and efficiency of ARM chips, and Bay Trail exceeds that level left and right. The benchmarks we ran on the two Bay Trail prototype tablets with a 1.46 GHz Atom Z3770 leave no doubt about it. In terms of CPU power, the new Atom is often up to three times faster than its predecessor. Compared to the fastest ARM chip of the moment, the Nvidia Tegra 4 with four Cortex-A15 cores, the Intel Atom Z3770 is convincingly faster. With a 95 percent market share in the server market and dominating the desktop and laptop world, after knocking out AMD, Intel has now set its sights on ARM and the mobile market. With the new Atom processors, Intel has made it clear it's bringing some serious muscle to this fight.

Today Intel introduced the world to “Bay Trail,” Intel’s first 22nm system-on-a-chip (SoC) for mobile devices. Bay Trail is a complete redesign of the Intel Atom processor series and offers performance that comes closer to Intel’s mainstream processors lines. Since Bay Trail is based on the company’s new low-power, high-performance Silvermont microarchitecture, you can expect to see roughly two to three times the performance of the current “Clover Trail” Atom with better battery life! Intel hasn’t had too many design wins in the tablet market with Clover Trail, but Intel is starting fresh and has high hopes to Bay Trail to capture a significant chunk of the Android and Windows tablet designs and even a fair number of 2 in 1 devices.

Intel released a new generation of Atom processors based on 32nm transistors. The Atom D2500 and D2700 are intended for cheap mini- or all-in-one PCs. Atom processors with model numbers starting with N are used in netbooks, a product category that has been losing market share since the arrival of tablets. A logical use for Atom processors will of course be the upcoming Windows 8 x86 tablets.
Thus far the Atom processors have not impressed very much. The energy efficiency sacrificed too much performance, and compared to the ARM competitors they weren't even that efficient. AMD's Fusion counterpart with its powerful integrated GPU was more interesting for light-weight computers. Does the new generation Atoms change our perception? Hardware.Info examined the new top model Atom, the D2700.

Forty lanes of connectivity are built into the Ivy Bridge-E processors and are divided into as many as 10 different ports, giving it more bandwidth than Haswell, and Ivy Bridge processors. The question is, with extremely powerful graphics cards on the market, such as the Nvidia GTX 780 and GTX Titan can the additional bandwidth translate into better performance?

The Intel Broadwell processor has a 14nm die, some microcode and memory controller changes as well as the addition of an L4 cache and the new Iris graphics processor. With a base frequency of 3.3 GHz we can’t consider it a speed bump since the Haswell 4770K has a frequency of 3.5 GHz.

Sandy Bridge is the name of the new microarchitecture Intel CPUs will be using starting in 2011. It is an evolution of the Nehalem microarchitecture that was first introduced in the Core i7 and also used in the Core i3 and Core i5 processors.
