Conclusion

General + -
Overall, the Kingston HyperX Savage DDR3-2400-C11 is a good DDR3 memory kit based on SK Hynix BFR memory chips. In a nutshell, it is a reasonably priced 16GB dual-channel kit. Since this is a mid-range memory kit you should not expect any miraculously high overclocking frequencies and results. The HyperX Savage modules are much more about modding then they are about overclocking, since you can get those modules with differently colored heatspreaders. What is also great, is that these sticks feature a black PCB, so the modules will definitely blend in nicely on a well designed motherboard.   - Reasonably priced
- Available with differently colored heatspreaders - Compatibility with big coolers

Scaling   + -
With CL9, CL10 as well as CL11 latency settings, we almost see a linear scaling with 1.65V, which is Intels recommended voltage for this kind of DDR3 kit, and basically the best performance you can get. Having a closer look at CL12 and CL13 settings, we see that there scaling is a degression in scaling. This means, that we are closing in on the frequency limits of these chips. We would have expected scaling to be worse on these BFR based modules but it appears there is some binning going on behind the scene before these chips make it onto the PCBs, which is always a good thing.   - Scaling CL9 - Scaling CL10 - Scaling CL11 - Scaling CL12 and CL13 - Scaling CL13

Overclocking   + -
Using the Maximus VII Formula and our specific CPU memory testing, which has a very good IMC, we were able to drive these modules to a maximum frequency of 2'599.4 MHz at CL12-13-13-35 settings. As we already mentioned, this is a pretty decent result for a reasonably priced 16GB kit based on BFR chips.

Recommendation / Price   + -
Checking Geizhals.at for prices, we found the Kingston HyperX Savage 16GB, DDR3-2400, CL11-13-14-35 kit listed for 145 Euro. Therefore, this kit is well priced and in combination with the differently colored heatsinks, it should appeal to both DIY users, system integrators as well as modders.   - Price - Gaming and workstation PC

Rating
