This DirectCU II Top version from ASUS
leaves us with mixed feelings. The graphics card itself if very good but
the performance wasn't "au rendez-vous". On the plus side it features a
better quality PCB as well as a stronger power design than the reference
design. Also the cooler proved to be very good, I never heard it. The
power consumption was goo too, 5 Watts less than the EVGA card. And it
has a factory overclocking on the GPU. On the minus side: No bundle, no overclocking on the memory and the performance gain over the reference design was only about 2 % on average. It is really a pity that ASUS didn't do a factory overclocking on the memory as well because the chips used are specified to run 150 MHz higher. |

Performance | + | - | |
ASUS claimed that his Top GTX 650 Ti was
8.7 % faster than the reference design. First of all if you know the
architecture and the scaling of such a factory overclocking then you can
guess that the gain in performance will be around 5 %. But here we saw
none of them unfortunately. On average our DCU II Top was only 2 %
faster than the reference version. I think it's a memory limitation. The
EVGA card which had 2GB of memory turned out to be alot faster than the
reference on with only 1GB of memory. So I decided to monitor the video
memory usage and I saw that it was full a lot of time. On the other hand
the power consumption was really good, 5 Watts lower than the EVGA card
in both idle and load conditions. The noise level is also at a very good level, I mean I didn't hear the card a single time. I even ran FurMark for around one hour and monitored the fan as well as the GPU temperature while it was running. The fans didn't exceed 20 % (1'200 RPM) and the max GPU temperature was 52°C. |

Recommendation | + | - | |
What holds us back from giving it a good recommendation is the price. I mean this DirectCU II Top is 40 € more expensive than the reference design and isn't worth it at all. For exemple for 20 € less you can find the EVGA SSC we reviewed few weeks ago that has 2GB of memory is as silent and 7 % faster. | - Overclocking | - Price | |
We gave the ASUS GeForce GTX 650 Ti DirectCu II Top 2 out of five stars. |
