With the Samuel 17, Prolimatech shows a perfectly manufactured and beatifully crafted low profile cooler. The fact that the block only measures 45 millimeters in height makes it compatible to all HTPCs cases as well as small desktops. From such a compact cooler one shouldn't expect miracles in terms of performance. Never the less it is still sufficient to keep a powerful desktop CPU at reasonable temperatures. | - Size
Installation | + | - | |
The installation process is easy and you can mount the cooler quickly. In fact we could mount it perfectly well without even looking at the manual. This means that unexperienced users should also have no problems installing this cooler. Furthermore Prolimatech provides mounting brackets for all recent Intel and AMD sockets which makes this cooler a good allrounder. | - Easy and robust - Compatible with Intel and AMD sockets

During our tests we used a 120 millimeter fan from Noctua which when driven at 12 Volt produces a noise level that is audible. Using an adapter and regulating the voltage to 7 Volt made the noise level drop to subjectively silent. At 12 Volt and 1400 rotations per minute we measure 85°C core temperature. In our opinion this is ok also for long term use. Driving the fan at 7 Volt and 800 rotations per minute made the core temperatures increase to 96 °C which really is too much for long term use. Never the less this isn't a bad cooler and we also have to mention that we do not have any other low profile coolers in our comparison. This puts things into perspective and we think this is a capable cooler for HTPCs and small form factor desktops. |
